BIRDIE SLING

This honey of a sling holds everything and it's easy to make! (Great for beginners.) Modern styling and dynamic proportions will make this one of your favorite carry-all bags!

Materials List


Allow extra yardage for matching or centering a design on your fabric.

If using 44” wide light to mid-weight fabric
(ex. quilting fabric)

  • 1 1/8 yards for the Exterior
  • 1 1/8 yards of a coordinating fabric for the Bands and Handles
  • 1 1/8 yards of a 3rd coordinating fabric for the Lining
  • 3 1/2 yards of 20” wide woven fusible interfacing
    (we use SF-101 by Pellon®)


If using wide heavier mid-weight fabric
(ex. Amy's home dec weighti)

  • 5/8 yard for the Exterior
  • 1 1/8 yards of a coordinating fabric for the Bands and Handles
  • 1 1/8 yards of a 3rd coordinating fabric for the Lining
  • 3 yards of 20” wide woven fusible interfacing
    (we use SF-101 by Pellon®)


PLUS (for either weight fabric) you'll need:

  • 1/2 yard of 44” wide fusible fleece
    (we use fusible Thermolam Plus® by Pellon®)
  • 1 spool of coordinating all-purpose thread
    (we use Coats Dual Duty Plus®)


Finished size: 28” tall including Handles x 18” wide

TOOLS NEEDED: Scissors, Iron and Ironing board, Straight pins, Ruler / Tape measure, Scotch tape™, Hand sewing needle, Chalk pencil, Tracing paper, Pressing Ham or Rolled towel, Pressing cloth, and Turning tool (such as a closed pair of scissors).

All fabrics shown are from Amy's MIDWEST MODERN™ collection by Rowan. Fabric used on the front cover image is ab32 fuchsia / fresh poppies and ab26 moss / martini. Project in photo below the cover image is made with ab32 green / fresh poppies and ab26 green / martini.
