Subject: Trying to decide Date: 3/15/06 1:40 AM

Hi Sarah,

I'm trying to decide if this is a good time to try to take this class. It sounds interesting. How many lessons are there? Do you do a project in the class other than the half-scale garments? I'm just trying to roughly gauge the time commitment.

Thanks.

Paula

Hi Paula,

There are 12 lessons, and I structure my lessons so that you can usually read through them in 15 to 30 minutes. I sometimes include an "exercise" for you to to complete, to help you familiarize yourself with a technique I'm discussing, or to get your hands accustomed to assessing fabric in a certain way. If there's an exercise, the lesson might take you 30 minutes or a little more.

I generally post the next day's lesson before I go to bed (I'm on the east coast).

The only projects in the class are making the two half-scale garments. It's hard to gauge how long it will take you to complete these, since people work at different paces. But I'd guess even beginner sewers could complete each garment in about 1 to 1-1/2 hours.

And there will be 4 chats. From having just taught my Understanding Knit Fabrics class twice, the chats are really fun and informative. Even though the chat transcripts are posted for all to read, participating in the chats really is like being in a classroom together. So you might enjoy the class more if you could make at least one or two chats.

The posted lessons will be very complete, so you could work through the lessons at your own pace. Though I do think anyone would get more out of the class by reading the lessons daily, reading the questions and answers on the class board, and participating in the chats.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!

Sarah

Co-incidently, I have been thinking this week that I want to make some blouses with a double layer of fabric to give them more substance.

Are you covering any techniques that handle seam allowance treatments (faux hong-kong type finish, I guess) or more traditional underlining?

Hi Anne,

Yes, I will discuss quite a number of seam finishes that can be used. Let me know if you have any other questions about the class. Sounds like you've got some interesting projects you want to make!

Subject: Too late? Date: 3/27/06 1:53 PM

I have just found out about the interlining class and it is something I need to take. (I have just volunteered/been guilted into making six bridesmaid's dresses for a June wedding.)

However, today is the first lesson. How would I go about getting the kit? And how much is it?

Hi Marilyn,

You can still sign up for the class even though today was the first day. You don't really need the kit contents for a couple more days. And you can always work through the lessons at your own pace. Though I always encourage registrants to participate in the chats -- they're really fun.

The kit is included in the price of the class ($98.00), which also includes first class postage. If you wanted me to mail the kit priority mail or overnight, I'd be happy to do that for an additional fee.

Let me know what you'd like to do.

Subject: previously purchased classes? Date: 9/10/06 7:33 PM

I was a member for a year or so and then family problems kept me from trying to learn to sew. I had bought several of the lessons and never got to try them. I just rejoined, and I would like to get them onto my computer. My computer also blew up about the time of the classes. Is there any way to access them again?: Thanks, Carole

Subject: Kit Essential? Date: 10/5/06 11:32 AM

Hi, Sarah.

I have taken innumerable sewing classes and have all the materials contained in the kit. I would like to take this class without having to purchase the kit also. Is that possible? What would be the adjusted price?

Thanks,
Marissa

Hi MarissaB,

Sorry, the kit is integral to the class, and I do require it. I have had quite a number of experienced sewers take my classes, and they all say the kit is worthwhile. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Sarah
