Are there any other Piedmont/ Triad sewers here?

I sent for information on starting an ASG (American Sewing Guild) chapter in this area. Currently we have only the Charlotte and Raleigh options for meetings.

I honestly was initially interested in whether there were any "neighborhood groups" in this area, but I haven't heard back from either of the 2 established chapters on the subject so I've assumed there aren't. If this is incorrect please let me know as it will be much easier to join a local group than try to get a new chapter off the ground.

If we decide to try to form a new chapter here we will need at least 15 members/6 who are willing to serve as President and CAP (chapter advisory board) members. Is anyone interested?
If not, Would you share where you shop so that I can get flyers out for a meeting to determine if there is enough interest?
Thanks so much, Renee

Hey Renee!
I just did a search to find sewers in the Triad area and SURPRISE - all I found was you It cracks me up that I have run into you on three completely separate cyberplaces!

Seriously - are we the only two sewers in this area? Did you ever have any interest in this? I'd be willing to help out - maybe we can discuss at our next little sewing fest.

Hi all -

I'm in Greenville, SC (piedmont) and I emailed the ASG about starting a chapter here. Um, about 2 months ago. Didn't even get an automated reply.

I guess they're not all that interested in this area for some reason.

So I'm no longer interested in them.

Good luck though!

Hey:
I think that isn't an ASG in the Triad....there was a lady who drove ALL the way from W-S to the Raleigh meetings because that was the closest one!

I'm sorry that ASG didn't respond...try Dorothy Nemy, she's the president of the Raleigh chapter. Her email address is president@asgraleigh.org. I also have a phone number for her, let me know if you want it and I'll PM it to you. I'm a member but I don't go to meeting because of my work schedule. I will say that the Raleigh Chapter offers great workshops and seminars. If you can't start a separate ASG group, you may be able to start a neighborhood group.

Feel free to mention that you were referred to her via a Raleigh ASG member, Kim Winson. I don't think she'll recognize my name but if it helps...

OMG Ang, You are everywhere. lol Nice to see ya here. I've been away for a while and looked up this post because I got a PM from someone about the ASG.

Are you still interested in starting one? I'd love to try again.

Cindy_Lou, If you are still around, are you interested? I'll give them (ASG) another shout and we'll see if we can try this again.

I would contact the national office of ASG in Houston about starting a chapter.

Hi Anamoo and Angie! Yes, I'm still in the neighborhood and don't plan to move till they have to escort me out of my home on my walker.

I'd be up to look into an ASG chapter. My big interest in it is to have a local sewing interest group, where we can get together and hang out and sew, and learn from each other. I have 2 friends here in Elon (which is just east of Greensboro) who probably would be up for it, too. Let me know what you find out about the ASG!

I live in Greensboro, and am a member of the Raleigh ASG. No, there's currently no Neighborhood Group in the triad.

I drive over for special events that I'm interested in.

I was involved in starting a chapter in SW Florida, and ended up doing all the work. Haven't yet recovered from that and it was years ago...still not much of a joiner :-)

Locally, I shop at Joann's (yuck) and Randy's Quilt Shop, although I'm not a quilter. There's a newer Heirloom store called Sew Heavenly.

I got my Viking Scandinavia 400 from Sew Heavenly. I can vouch for their helpfulness, integrity, and quality. Those ladies are wonderful! Their prices are quite fair, too.

Also went to Randy's to test-drive babylocks. It was a little frustrating b/c they are the Bernina dealer, but only keep one Bernina serger in the store (which wasn't working when I was there). The stated reason is that they never sell any of them-- babylock is so popular. They are really nice and helpful there, though. And now they have an attached coffee shop! Yum. I love their fabrics! I just stand there with my jaw dropped and stare for a long time.

I hear you about organizing and how much it takes out of you. I am not up to be the organizer of a local ASG chapter either, b/c of my involvement in the kids' school. If anyone else is, though, I would love to come to the meetings!

Hi - my name is Judi and I'd be into a group! I live in W-S and would love to have some sewing friends.

I shop at Sewingly Yours in Lewisville and Sew Original on Robinhood Rd in W-S.
