Hi All, I have this machine and have been relatively happy with it. It's not great on really heavy weight material but good for general sewing. Anyway, the other day I was cleaning it and going through all the features when I decided to drop the feed dogs with the lever on the lower back (left). I couldn't get the feed dogs to come back up by switching it back! I took the bed cover which the the lever is attached to. There's no evidence that a part is missing or broke off, but this switch only seems to work one way, to drop the feed dogs and it won't bring them back up once they are down as described in the manual. It's like a one way switch! Fortunately I was able to lift the feed dogs back in place and another part clicked to keep them there. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem (?) I can't imagine it's a major oversite in the design of the machine. I think I'm missing a part or something broke (plastic) and for the time being I'll leave it as is since I don't NEED to drop the feed dogs and I know how to get them back up if need be.

After you switch the lever to bring the feed up you will need to start sewing again to bring them up again, or try just turning the hand wheel. I hope you get it figured out. Your machine is one that had raves reviews some time ago on different sewing forums. I hope you continue to enjoy it.

That Works! Thank you so much! I could have sworn I tried that before but I have a feeling I must not have. When I was in college we had a saying for times like this "Rookie Move" At any rate it's working now. Yes I do really like this machine. I should have explained more about the Heavy Fabric. I was refering to a time I was helping someone make pinch pleated drapes with heavy fabric and lining. The other person had a true industrial machine. I felt like I was abusing my poor machine trying to work on that project! This was obviously beyond the scope of the machine and it still did an okay job considering. Thanks again for pointing out what I should have seen!

You are not the only one who has posted about this. Several machines are like that, and it doesn't seem to say this in the manuals, so it sure isn't you!It would really be nice if the instructions made a point of telling us that!

I am so glad you got your feed dog situation sorted out.

The next time you are working with heavy weight woven materials, try a denim point needle as opposed to a universal point. this may make the task a bit easier on your machine.

Good, I'm glad all is well now. Besides using a different needle as Jenny suggested for working on heavy fabric you also might want to adjust the foot pressure if your MX3123 has this pressure adjustment.

Did your feed dog problem happen again? I have a Memory Craft 6000 and the feed dog dropped and won't come back up no matter what I try.

Any suggestions?

Hi, I tried what KYynne2 posted above as well as making sure the feed dog area was free of lint. Apparently the feed dog lever itself doesn't raise the feed dogs alone. You put the feed dog lever back into up position and then start sewing for the feed dogs to raise. Mine has a lot of plastic and I think if it was made so the feed dog lever had to do all the work it would eventually break.

After you have raised the feed dogs with the switch you need to turn the machine forward one stitch (either with the flywheel or by using the needle up/down.
Whilst it is doing the stitch, the feed dogs will re-engage.
If they don't move back up, it can be because there is a lot of lint caught between the feed dogs and the plate.

Rest assured that they do re engage, it just takes one stitch to happen.

Hi everyone, new here just wanted to say SO glad I found this - just got a new Brother FS-40 today and couldn't get the feed dogs to lift again (my last sewing machine didn't have that option) and nothing in the manual said how to get them lifted again other than flipping the switch!

Thanks!
