Date: 2/1/07 10:39 AM Message Board Moderators - How can you help?
As you know the PR Message Boards became moderated in October 2006. PR Members, Pyrose, MaryT, coloreyec and Irina are the Message Board moderators who out of love for this site, spend numerous hours reading each and every post in their forums and making sure that there is respect and harmony on the site for all. As you can imagine, moderating the active message boards on PR is not an easy task and yet they do it relentlessly. Their actions allow me to focus on the other areas of PR which require more of my time.
On a daily basis, moderators read almost every topic and post in the forums they are responsible for. In the case that moderation is required they:
a) Change the Title of the Topics when necessary ,
b) Move the topic to an appropriate forum,
c) Edit the text of any of the posts,
d) Tone down the nature of any posts/topic by participating in them
e) Act upon the objectionable post complaints
f) Sending private messages to members to discuss topics/posts
Occasionally when topics/posts do not follow the Posting Guidelines the moderators also have to Delete and Lock them. Even though they have the authority to do this, they think twice before taking any such action and try to discuss it on the Moderators topic and ask each other before taking such a step.
If they think it is required, and when possible, they also send a private message to the poster of the topic/message indicating why they have taken an action.
At times it is possible for you to feel that a moderator's action is incorrect -- in this case please, please feel free to send a private message to the Moderator of that forum with your concern. Please note that effective today Feb 1st 2007 anybody can send a private message to the moderators and they can send a message to any member on PR. This is regardless of your FoPR status or message quota.
As you can see moderation is not an easy task and I greatly appreciate the time, commitment and energy the PR moderators give in order to make PR a better place. They do not have any personal agendas and only take moderation actions when they feel it is necessary to maintain harmony on the site. I would greatly appreciate if you would be respectful in your interactions with them -- as you are with all the other members on PR. They do a hard job and deserve all the support we can give them.

Reply to Deepika Date: 2/1/07 11:43 AM Hi Deepika, thank you for the clarification of the functions & purpose of the moderators. I also thank those who are giving so much of their time & energy to this task.
It's also great to know what steps to take if one just doesn't quite understand an action the moderator deems necessary. This is such a *Great* web site for those of us dedicated to sewing! Personally, I'm greatly relieved that this mechanism is in place. It can help to prevent a bad situation developing & getting out-of-hand.
Thanks again, all of you!

I'm also glad (as someone who hasn't managed to renew her fopper-ness just yet) that it's been changed to allow free members to PM moderators. Puts us at a potential disadvantage otherwise. Thanks!------ ... but what do I know? Next page>> |

Don't know if the "quote" thingy is working, but hope so.
Especially as a free member, I am always grateful for being a part of this wonderful group, and now, for everyone to have PM access to the moderators is fantastic. Thank you to Deepika and all the moderators.

-- Edited on 2/3/07 5:30 PM -- Next page>> |
