I would like to make a skirt or dress out of it to wear this summer, but I can no longer wear "sundresses" because of age and weight issues. These are large prints and will likely not be wearable in a few years because they are somewhat trendy. I would like to use them while they are still in style. I already have one nice piece of wool that is clearly an '80's period piece that will probably continue to age for a long time. ------ Marilyn January 2009 to January 2010 81 yards out and 71yards in January 2010 to the present 106.7 yards out and 146.5 yards in. January 2011 to the present: 47 yards out and 69 yards in.

Date: 5/21/07 9:20 AM Well Marilyn, you might be in luck...word on the fashion street is that 80's are on their way back. Be first to catch the trend back to the 80's and make up that nicely aged piece. Meanwhile, for the knits, why not look at some of the Sandra Betzina patterns? She does a lot with knits, and she does trends in a way that is less youthful edit -- strike that - I mean less directed at the youth market. TGFSF (Thank G for small favors) V2926 is one that might make good use of a big print, and if you took some of the length out of that torso it might be more flattering for you. V2969 is a nice skirt pattern for knits, that again might be fun in a larger print. It made up very nicely and I think it would look lovely in a stretch woven. Mine is black with HUGE colorful flowers. You may want to check it out.

Maybe a shirtdress? There's plenty of nice skirts you could make, even a simple A-line. And you could add a short sleeve jacket if you have enough fabric.

Date: 5/21/07 11:50 AM I just finished making a muslin of Vogue 8382 and you might like to test this out. The top section is fine but after making the muslin I decided to stop the pleats in the skirt section just above the waist so as not to emphasise all that which is better left hidden Not sure how heavy your cotton stretch is but this may work for you - I like what I got from the muslin and will definitely be making it up in a week or two. My TNT is New Look 6601 - just about finished making the 2007 version and will review again sometime next week.

Date: 5/27/07 3:56 AM How funny - I am thiiiiis close to finishing up Vogue 8382 also. I am making it out of an embroidered linen with a small bit of stretch. It is done except for inserting the zipper, slip stitching down the lining and hemming. I am very short-waisted (15.25" nape to back-waist, and I am 5'5") so I did the petite adjustment at the waist darts to make them release higher up. I am glad I did. I am not certain because I don't have the zipper in, but I don't think I'll get back bunching... however I certainly would have without the adjustment. The darts release fairly low down. 3 other things I'll mention in case anyone wants to do this pattern... 1) it calls for a 22" long zipper. That seems overly long. I don't feel like going out and buying another zipper, but you could easily go with 18" or so. And 2) I went with view B which looks to be tea-length in the photo. It is floor length on me without a hem (but with that petite adjustment), and I don't consider 5'5" to be particularly short. So I think as a result, the fabric requirements are a bit excessive because you could hack off a good 6 - 8" off the bottom of all of the skirt panels, saving you some yardage. 3) that slash does bring the neckline kinda low. Guess I need to go bra shopping. Darn. (I may need to use a hook and eye behind it to be decent. I'll have to see.) Otherwise, this looks to be a fabulous, flattering and very easy pattern. My husband was thoroughly smitten with the pinned on version. I am hoping to wear this on Thursday, so barring any major catastrophes, I'll be posting an official review soon. They don't provide much arm coverage, but that can be modified. I'm working on some pants today.
