There has been some confusion about Flickr photo URLs and the fact that they don't work with most PR scripts. Here's a short tutorial on how to obtain the correct URL from your Flickr photo album for use on PatternReview.com

First and foremost, you must make the photo you want to use Public



After uploading the image, it looks something like this. Make sure that the image is the correct size for your avatar, if that's what you want to use it for.



Now, point your cursor over the image and hit the right mouse button and choose Properties from the right click menu.



Based on the browser you are using you'll see a URL called either Location (in firefox) or (Address/URL) in Internet Explorer. Copy that entire URL.

You are almost done...
Now, the URL you got is not quite PR ready. So, all you have to do is remove the ?v=0 from the URL and use everything before that.



That's it! Now, to use this URL as your avatar, simply Edit your profile and add it as your Image. Save the profile, and you'll see your new avatar instantly!

If you struggling with the photo URL in Flickr, try this:

• Go to your page on flicker, select the photo you want by clicking on it; after that it should be the only one displayed.


• Above your picture are a series of radio buttons; click on the magnifying glass that says "All Sizes" Your photo should come up as the largest size.


• Scroll down to where you see "To Link this photo to other web sites you can either:"


• There are 2 options there.
  Click in the option number 2 box where the URL is it will highlight and you can right click and copy then paste it in your review.

What are the size limitations for avatars?
I've tried to link to my avatar photo in Picasa (saved for public) using the same method. It appears against my posts for a little while and then I get the empty box with the red cross. Has anyone else successfully linked to their avatar in Picasa?

I guess I can add a tutorial for Picasa as well, but yesterday when I was trying it out for someone's photo, it didnt quite work for me. Some photo albums will not let you link to the photo directly and google is such a control freak (oops pardon my language) that it may just be one of them.

Size limitations - Nice if the image is 64 pixels wide. Otherwise just use a small size.

I've just spent 2 hours going back and forth from flikr to the add review page, right clicking my photo, copying the url, knocking of the last bit after the ? (which sometimes appears in the properties box and sometimes doesn't), trying both the address forms that come up - sometimes it has an s before the last jpg, sometimes it doesn't, borrowing dh's specs to magnify and make sure I havent made a mistake in copying, and each time I test the url it comes up unfindable. This is my first flikr experience btw. what's going wrong anyone?

Now that this thread popped up again (sorry petro, I don't have an answer) ... I'm wondering if it would be possible for PR to host avatars, like it does for review thumbnails? I bet a lot more members would have avatars then.
