I really want to improve my skills. I'm not sure that on-line classes are for me. I probably have too may questions for on-line to be an effective choice (I struggle with spatial relations- can't even read a map! If only there were GPS for sewing!)

My local viking dealer has classes - but they focus on sewing machine operation. they don't really cover sewing.

There are some classes at Joanns - but they tend to be simple "one day" projects.

Any ideas? I don't even know how to find other people in my area who sew. I'd love to connect with people the way quilters connect with one another. Any thoughts

I found my teacher by asking at my local dealer if they knew of anyone who gave private sewing lessons.

I live in Palmer Twp. near Easton. There is a group of us that are getting together once a month with the goal of getting a Lehigh Valley chapter of the American Sewing guild going. We meet the third Saturday of each month at the Wegman's on Rt 248 in Nazareth. We are meeting on the 15th of this month at 8:30.

I don't know where in bucks you live, but if you are near 611, it isn't too long of a haul to come out to the Easton area. The 4 of us have different degrees of sewing skills but would be happy to help you.

You can pm me here at PR if you would like more info.

Hi, I live in Forks. Do you know anywhere nearby for lessons. I don't know anything! My daughter and I would love to learn.

Check with your local county extension service, community college and girl scout troops. (The teacher who instructs the latter for their sewing merit badge might also be willing to teach adults.)

Post a notice, Sewing Lessons Wanted, at your dealer, on Craigslist, and dry-cleaners.

Run a free classified ad in your local newspaper with the same message.

Check the yellow pages for "alterations" and check with them.

Check sewingwithnancy.com for her "Sewing with Nancy" shows. The episodes, Sewing with Confidence, will teach you some basics and might be available for free downloads on the website--, yeah!, there is a book with the same title if you can't see the show.

You should be able to find someone. Welcome to the world of stitchers and sewers, it's a fabulous place.

I used to live near Bucks County. There is a very popular teacher that teaches in Philly at Philadelphia University on Saturdays (the historical name of this college was Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences...the oldest textile college in the U.S.)

Laurel Hoffman teaches a continuing ed program which covers pattern adjustments, techniques and all sorts of things. People drove from all over the metro area to attend her classes.

Hi
I had heard there was someone in the Bell's Corner shopping center and also someone on the Blvd. in the northeast. I never looked into it, but I might be interested. Please let me know if you find out anything.
Phila. University would be great. I read that Jay (the winner from Project Runway) taught there -maybe last year.

I'd suggest posting this question in the 'Regional Communities' area of the boards to get more answers. Good Luck!
