I hope that someone has some experience in this arena. I've done some upholstering over the years, but DH wants to try his hand at learning to do automotive trim and upholstery.

I have a Thompson walking foot machine that would certainly be enough for him to try his hand at it, but he would like some books and videos to help him learn. Any suggestions?

No suggestions, but will ask neighbor who has totally reupholstered THREE cars for suggestions. I bet no joy though - he's an engineer and used to figuring things out on his own - but he might have useful suggestions.

I did auto/boat/motorcycle upholstery for years. to start look up auto upholstery on the internet. Ii would be glad to anwser any question that I am able too.

Can you suggest any good websites for the info? I did serach and goolge, and I didn't get mudh useful info.

BTW, They didn't make the camaro in 1952????

Hi Jennyg,

I searched Smartflix for auto upholstery. There are 2 videos--
here is one. There are others on Smartflix that may be good introductions for your DH.

I have a book called "Automotive Upholstery Handbook" by Don Taylor that seems like a very good place to start. The following bullet points are on the front cover of the book:

* How to use trimmer's tools, fasteners and materials
* How to cut, fit and sew
* Make and install complete interiors
* Vinyl and convertible tops
* Tonneau covers

It looks comprehensive and detailed, with lots of black and white pictures showing the steps of the various upholstery projects.

214 pages. Written by a professional auto trimmer.
