Date: 7/3/08 9:14 AM I'm always wondering about what other Petites are working on for themselves, but there's hardly ever anything to read about petites because our Petite section is always so quiet. I saw Sherril's post under the plus thread and thought it would be the perfect topic for the petite section!
I'll bet a lot of petites would love to hear about what other petites are sewing for themselves. I know I would!
I'll share first. I love dresses and have several cut and ready to sew right now. I'm hoping to finish some of these this week:
I'm making the dress from S3874 out of a rayon challis with a colorful floral on a black background; the dress with the butterfly sleeves from M5579 out of a black and white polka dot rayon challis; the view A dress from S2886 out of a soft white solid woven; and the short dress from V8386 out of an aqua and green knit. Oh and a couple of simple sheath dresses. I'll probably finish the sheaths first since they're really easy to sew.
So, what are you sewing for yourself right now?
Your turn!

Date: 7/3/08 9:31 AM I am working on a knit dress right now.
First I took this pattern and then I gave it the princess line of this dress . I adjusted the length to mid calf and made up the muslin in a poly/cotton interlock.
It turned out very pretty, but I think i'm going to do some fine tuning to the placement of the seams before I make the final version.

Date: 7/3/08 9:40 AM I'm between projects at the moment. I started a pair of pants but quickly got tired of them and put them in the UFO spot. I rarely do that, but this time I just couldn't help it.
Later today after I get my other work done, I'm going to pull out my patterns and start on a knit dress. Probably simplicity 3775 simply because it's TNT and very comfortable. ------ The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.

Date: 7/3/08 11:23 AM Wow, Em, you certainly have a ambitious sewing list. I love all the dresses you've selected and I'm looking forward to seeing your finished products. Thanks for the topic starter. I enjoy seeing and hearing what other petites are doing as well.
Melissa, I'm also looking forward to your uniquely styled dress from two patterns. It sounds lovely.
Cindyann, those TNT patterns are great, aren't they? Just clear and easy sewing - gotta love that.
I'm currently working on this skirt BWOF 01-08-111. I've decided to join the one garment a month sew along to keep me motivated and on task. I think the length of this skirt is perfect for petites, however, the cuff may be a little too much for a petite frame, we'll see.

Reply to Busy Mom Date: 7/3/08 9:18 PM Melissa--That dress is TDF! I love it. And the creative changes that you made sound great!
Cindyann--I can definitely relate because I've had a few projects that I got tired of quickly, too! S3775 is the perfect project to work on after putting your pants aside. The dresses from S 3775 are all so pretty!
Lisa--I love the skirt you're working on! It has so many great details that add just the right amount of pizzazz to the skirt! I hope the cuff works out ok because it's just too cute!
I can't wait to see pics of what you all are working on! I got a little sidetracked today and decided to finish a wrap dress that I started last month. I put it aside because I wasn't sure if I liked the print/color combo. I looked at it again today and wondered if I should toss it, but when I held it up and looked at it in the mirror, I really liked it, so I started working on it. Now all I have left to do is the hem. Then it's on to the sheaths and the other dresses during my sewing time!

Date: 7/4/08 10:31 AM Yeah! More people to add to my favorites. I try and put persons on it who are similar to my size and have the same style.
I am beginning today on a Burda pattern 7771. This is actually my first go at a Burda pattern. I did one from the magazine a couple weeks ago and LOVED it. I am making it from a soft lime green suiting fabric from clearance at Joann's first.
I also plan to cut out New Look 6952 for what I hope will be an fast, easy TNT pattern soon. I need a simple shirt to wear under patterned jackets that I adore.
My 3 day weekend also includes making the Cabo Halter from Amy Butler. That should be a quick sew if the zipper doesn't give me any problems.
That is all I plan to get done this weekend. Sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach. as my Gma would say. And my DH wishes I would be so ambitious either- I collapse into bed snoring. lol
Happy Sewing, ladies!

ETA: I thought maybe I was onto something choosing the sewingpatterns.com site for my popups. It didn't work as I had planned but if you just put the number in the search, it should take you where I wanted you to go. -- Edited on 7/4/08 10:34 AM -- ------ I don't mind going to work but it's that 8 hour wait to go home that's a B!TCH. Date: 7/4/08 10:43 AM Cindyann--I have always loved that knit dress! I tried, but i couldn't get it to work for me...I think my proportions are all wrong for that midriff panel.
Lisa--that is such a cute skirt!
Em--looking forward to seeing all those dresses!
Well, I got the seams adjusted, the pieces cut out and the final dress assembled yesterday. Actually, it only took about 1.5 hours, I was surprised at how quickly it went. I was expecting the matching FOE to arrive in yesterday's mail, though, and it didn't, so I will have to go on to something else until it arrives.
Until I can finish that one, I think I will go on to this New Look pants pattern. I'm kind of a year round tee/tank top ( or lately, Jalie Sweetheart top--I think I've made 8 so far) and jeans kind of girl, but I'm trying to expand my style :). -- Edited on 7/4/08 10:50 AM -- ------ Trinity Next page>> |

I know, Ronda! I do the same thing.
I really need to get the Cabo Halter pattern. It's so cute and looks so comfortable. Also, that New Look pattern, 6952 should be great. I don't have it but I do have this NL pattern. It's almost identical and it's one of my favorites. I've made many times. ------ The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.

Date: 7/4/08 11:45 AM Just wanted to say that I didn't get any sewing done yesterday. I simply ran out of time.

Reply to Ronda Rae Date: 7/4/08 1:18 PM That is an ambitious weekend schedule. I always find that pants take me a little longer than other projects. It's all because of the fit issues.
That NL shirt pattern looks like it would make a wonderful classic top. I don't sew much with NL, my preference lately has been the BWOF's.
