Seeing Marcia's "pimped" sewing room got me thinking... (me thinking = scary)
Anyway, I was thinking that it would be so cool to have a dedicated topic for sewing rooms or sewing spaces. We could post our ideas for using regular furniture or materials for sewing furniture or accessories. For instance, I use an over-the-door clear pocket shoe organizer for rolls of stabilizer, sprays, glues etc. I also used two sliding closet doors to configure my L shaped sewing table, along with 2 file cabinets and a cut-to-height sofa table as support for the doors. The file cabinets are stuffed with patterns. I also have a stall shower curtain rod under one part of my table so it makes it stable when I am serging like h..., I mean serging like the wind
I am sure many of the PR Gang have great ideas for sewing furniture, accessories, solutions made from ordinary stuff.
Wouldn't it be great to have a topic dedicated to our ideas?

I'm not too creative. I use an over the door organizer for my serger thread. I've heard some people use paper towel holders to put their rolls of ribbon on or even their stabilizers for embroidery.

I know I read about some really neat and creative uses numerous items for sewing and embroidery notions. I'll think on it today and possibly post more.

Mrs. Moos, that is a very good idea. What might seem like a practical solution to one person, could be a genius idea to another. And, so many things that one of us might take for granted might not ever occur to others of us. There's a wealth of information out there to make our sewing spaces more efficient, regardless of the sze.

I was happy to see this thread, as I have just negotiated a deal with DH, and now have our whole study to be my sewing space!!!

Well, not quite all... we have some files that can't be moved, and the furniture is non-negotiable-- it stays. And a few books must stay on the shelf. So I will need to creatively work around that stuff.

I'll look forward to seeing all the creative ideas here!

Good idea...I proposed some time ago that we have a whole thread section for this but it never got a comment.....so YES!!! There have been many threads...all really interesting.

Great idea for a thread! I have a small room that's supposed to be my "sewing room" but it ends up being the catchall place when we need to clean up the living room, and it has all sorts of other projects in it too. And none of the furniture in there is very functional. I've been thinking about emptying it all out, measuring everything, and maybe even buying some organizers or appropriate furniture at IKEA or the Container Store. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's ideas.

My entire (tiny) sewing room is complements of IKEA. I have the tall boxed shelf (5 wide? and 4 tall? have to count, hmmm) that fits on one wall. ANd they have a desk top that you can put on different bases - I have 3 drawers on one side and the "computer tower" on the other - without the computer. I can put my trash can on the bottom shelf and thead on the other part. On the off chance that my ironing board ever gets put away, it fits between the shelf and the wall - we left just enough space

I don't think this should be in Miscellaneous at all! It's all about sewing and serging! How about moving it into the General Sewing Talk somewhere? Many of us don't usually read Misc due to time constraints. I might have missed it!
