Hi there,

since I was travelling so much this year I met a few PR members (Annika, Asa & Maria... did not make it to Karin though! SORRY) we talked a bit about doing a European PR weekend in 2009 and decided that Paris would be awesome.

What do you think?
When would be best?
How much would you be willing to spend for a hotel per night?

Since I've been to Paris just once and my French is kind of rusty all input would be awesome!

I'd say anytime except for Summer, when prices willl be high and the weather will be too warm and sticky. How about April or late September, early October...? But paris in winter would be just fine for me, too. Even February. Paris is Paris, after all. Should we do a poll?

Also - we'll need some help from local ladies and those of the group who have experience in Paris, finding lodgings and a place with a conference-type room.

Some things to consider seeing, just for fun:

Le Louvre
La Tour Eiffel - obligatory corny group photo? :D

Are there any classes or workshops we could find or put on ourselves? We all know so many textile crafts maybe we could share a couple, like we did in Kiel.

So who is up for Paris?

I'm planning on being in Paris sometime in April. It will be an anniversary trip for DH and I. It's unlikely that I'll actually be able to schedule it around a PR trip, but it could happen, right? Also, not sure how DH would feel about me abandoning him on our anniversary trip.

I'd love to go to Paris! I'll have to work on it with DH. He did do China last year without me. I've been to Paris about 4 times and absolutely love it and would love to go again. I've only ever been in the winter months. About 4 years ago, I went for a "quick" 4 day cathartic trip in December...post divorce from the first husband. The weather was ok.

I'm up for Paris. It's only a few hours from here.

I think renting an apartment might be cheaper than a hotel, and it will have a kitchen (definitely plus).

I'm up for Paris, too. Depending on the hotel price, I may or may not join you there. I have stayed in a hostel before so it wouldn't be a big deal for me to stay in one again.

If the trip is in April, is it possible to plan for the end of April?

If we could plan for Fall/Winter 2009 I might just be able to make it. I have a couple of things keeping me from thinking about earlier in the year. DH's company might be on strike in the spring and at work I've been elected the "move coordinator" for a planned spring move into our new building.

Paris is a dream of mine and meeting our european sewing friends and going fabric shopping with all of you....wow!

I'll keep an eye on this thread.

If you haven't experienced it, fabric shopping in Paris is wonderful, at all price levels. I'm moving from Germany back to the US next week, and two things I've learned here is go to Paris for fabric and Biella (Italy) for yarn. I don't know if/when I could join you next year.

There are several shops near Sacre Couer. I was on a strict budget when I last visited -- I have only pictures and vivid memories. There are also some amazing ribbon and button shops tucked in side streets -- but no chance of me remembering where those are.

I agree with the suggestion to rent a flat for a group.

I strongly recommend avoiding all major, and most minor, Catholic holidays, unless you want a really European crowd experience in Notre Dame.

Oh My Paris!

Dh and I are planning a trip to Paris for our anniversary next May. However I do not have any issues about moving our trip dates. March and April are not great for me though.

My dh would not have any issues of me meeting up with a bunch of great sewing ladies. He would probably head to Amsterdam for a few days. Those trains are so quick and convenient.

When we were there last year we stayed near the Sorbonne in a small hotel across from the Pantheon.
