We have two cats, a big dog, and 2 kids...can I get 2 more kitties without overwhelming the household? Will the neighbors think I'm bizarre?

I just can't get over my urge to go out and adopt a couple more kitties. (It's probably b/c my kids are getting a little older...my youngest started Kindergarden this year...and another "real" baby ain't gonna happen)

They might.

Not sure, but I think some communities limit the number of pets in a single home. You might want to check. If there's no limit, I think you should do whatever you want and forget about what your neighbors think of you, that is, unless you're letting your pets roam in their yards.

At one point we had 8 cats, and we tried not to let them congregate in the driveway, in case the neighbors noticed and started counting. (Can I help it if that adopted stray cat was pregnant?) DH wasn't happy having so many cats, but we loved them and cared for them for as long as they were with us. The last of the bunch died some months ago at age 21, leaving us with a more recently adopted Prince of the Realm. One cat....seems awful quiet around here. Less furry, too.

If your husband and kids don't mind, go for it!

ETA I realize I am probably not a good authority on when one becomes a "crazy cat lady". I've been there a long time.

Where are we going, and what am I doing in this handbasket?

Cats keep adopting me. I had four until last summer when a mother cat decided my back yard would be a perfect home for her three kittens. Did I need three more cats? No, but they need me. I'm trying to tame them. I have succeeded with one.

8 is the official count, then. After all, it's what Karla had.

You have 6 to go. Or maybe only 4, if the dog, 2 kids & husband each add to the total.

My husband says 1 cat makes you a crazy cat lady. I have two cats now. Down one from the three when we got married.

Well, we don't have cats but we do have three chickens. You'd be surpised how many people think that's weird too!

Mmmm, Phyllis - my dog and cat love chickens. They say they taste just like chicken.....Of course, they said that about the cockatiel, too...

Well, my cats are crazier than I am, so I need two sane ones before the counting can start.
