Date: 11/21/08 2:03 PM I started this thread back at SG, but it fizzled out. I started to blog about it . . . bad idea. What was I thinking? Anyway, I put that silly blog to bed. First of all, I just don't have the time to blog, and second, well, I really don't like blogging about my boring life. But it would still be nice to connect with other SAHMs and share our experiences, tips and 30-minute recipes while trying to wedge in some sewing time in between it all.
How about it? Any SAHM out there interested in a sew along that never ends? -- Edited on 11/21/08 4:07 PM -- ------ http://plaidnpoplin.blogspot.com/ Next page>> |

Date: 11/21/08 2:47 PM Sure as long as all of my kids count, not just the one I actually gave birth to?
I have a 12 y/o daughter, a hubby, 2 cats and a dog and all of them seem to find one way or another to keep me from sewing
I'll start with my current project for inspiration for others.
Vogue 8323, viewC, with my first really successful FBA that is almost finished.
Wednesday I sliced and diced that pattern like an old vegamatic and traced a final copy to cut my muslin. Yesterday I cut out and stitched the muslin up to the neckline finishing, inserting sleeves and hemming. This morning I finished all but the last two inches of the hems when I ran out of thread. I will pick up more thread later today and finish the last bit of the hem tomorrow.
I'm really excited over this top and the fact that I finally got it right, really right, so close to perfection that I could hardly sleep last night. Now I'm thrilled, and I have a new enthusiasm for sewing and I'm ready to start another project right away.

Reply to poplin Date: 11/21/08 3:07 PM Well, since I will be senior SAHM here, I guess I will throw in with you all.
I liked your blog! I did not think it was boring at all. I don't know about you---but my life is never boring! I think I might trade for a little boring some days.
I just got done with a duffel bag for my sil, and I have to make one for my dh and 11 yo ds for Christmas while I have all that kind of stuff out of my bag stash. While I am at it---I am going to make a blue faux suede one for myself with Elvis and "Hunka-hunka Burnin Love" embroidered on it---not bc I am an Elvis fan (well since I was a kid), but just bc it is a cool idea, I need a carry bag for trips, and it will keep me from being bored!
I have outfits to make for my 8 yo dd, some things for me, embroidered ornaments for all the family, and then I will turn into a pajama factory here in my sewing room.
Cleaning house---I have been doing it all day---it is episodic and redundant---talk about boring!
OMGOsh! I also have to complete all those taglines---it is never going to end! ------ "Sewing should be fun; make it that way!" Margaret Islander

How about it? Any SAHM out there interested in a sew along that never ends | Sure-- and it never does end does it?
I've been sewing more holiday gifts than usual trying to keep to our budget (by using stashed fabric) but I really miss sewing garments. Especially for myself. After the holidays I'm doing some "for me" sewing. In the meantime it's gifts and clothes for my dd who is growing faster than wisteria . . .
And older ds needs some flannel pj bottoms . . .

Date: 11/21/08 8:54 PM I'm a SAHM with kids in college and HS (yes, lucky me...but I really could use a job )
I'm not exactly sure what a Sew Along is, but I wanna be in one.
I'm back to sewing for myself after doing it many years in the past, then sewing for the kids (sewing for little girls is so much fun.) Then later I did a lot of quilting. Gave up the quilting years ago after my husband died. I just couldn't do it anymore.
I bought myself a new machine a couple weeks past and I'm having fun learning about fitting (well, if you can call that part fun) and making an item to wear here and there.
Tonight my plan is to watch a movie and start crocheting a new bag. I gave my last one to my daughter...silly me.
So I'm in.
Oh, I'm currently working on a tunic top out of a crinkly rayon. I'm not sure of my fabric choice as it grows when I'm not expecting it to.

Date: 11/22/08 3:04 AM I actually have time in the week where if I was organised I would be able to sew, especially next year when I will have one at school & (hopefully) one still having sleeps in the daytime. But I find that the time gets eaten up by other things. So my quest is creating a routine that works to get stuff done and actually using the time I have to sew. Even if I don't really feel like it beforehand, once I get started it's a good thing.

Date: 11/22/08 4:54 AM I'll join in also, but I won't be able to get anything really started until after exams in about 2 weeks. I have seven kids and also homeschool and take online college classes so sewing for me gets put way back on my list sometimes. But I am taking a semester off next semester so hopefully I'll find more time to sew for myself and also improve my skills. These last few weeks of school have been really hard for me only because the time that I stay up to study I just think about what I want to sew or create next. I have recently gotten into trying to draft my own patterns also and want to do more with that too. But enough of me for now. I too have started a blog to try to get me sewing more but also I started it to improve my writing skills, I was a nerd in math and science in school but please don't give me a paper to write
okay its late and I know I'm going to regret it.
Happy sewing ------ http://farhanasews.blogspot.com/ Next page>> |

I had the same experience with V8514. The gathers on this top are on the back, but I didn't realize that when I purchsed it.
Do any of you shop for patterns in a hurry? Mr. Geek Sewing and our four kids all waited for me outside of Hancock's. I had my pattern list ready. I was in n' out of that store, and the only thing that delayed me was the line at the register! My youngest still nurses, so after five minutes of being cooped up in her carseat in a parked car, she starts letting everyone know just how irritated she is.
I thought V8514 would be provide easy-acess for nursing. Not! I had to move that gathered panel to the front, and it was not as easy as just switching back to front, because the back shoulder area is somewhat different in wearing ease than the front.
Anyway... (I do prattle on...) a lot of Scotch tape was involved.
I also managed to modify V8534 view C. I removed the bow. Heaven forgive the designer who thinks I should have a big knotted bow right on the center of my upper chest.------ http://plaidnpoplin.blogspot.com/ Next page>> |

Yes, it's that time of the year again for me. I don't know why I don't get these things done in the summer so I can have PJs ready to go for Christmas. Oh yea, I forgot. Summer is a busy time too.------ http://plaidnpoplin.blogspot.com/ Next page>> |

Reply to Idunna Date: 11/22/08 2:14 PM I like that top too! Great for nursing. I'm putting it on my pattern list.
I save my list on the desktop and print it when I go shopping. There is absolutely no time to sit down at the store and shop the catalogues.
BTW, the last link didn't work. -- Edited on 11/22/08 2:14 PM -- ------ http://plaidnpoplin.blogspot.com/ Next page>> |
