I am in the process of making the Sleeping Beauty Costume from Simplicity Pattern #9384.
I have a peanut of a daughter and the skirt length is too long. There are no shorthening/lengthening lines on teh skirt pattern pieces. Can I just hack off the necessary inches from the actuial pattern pieces before I lay it down and cut my fabric? I just want to nake sure I'm not damaging the look of the skirt.
#2: What is the difference between underlining and lining? This calls for organza and I am trying to keep costs down so is this necessary. Can I get away with a light weight muslin?
Thanks!

Underlining is a fabric that you baste to your fashion fabric, & then treat it as one layer. It is used for various reasons. I suspect in this case it is to add stiffness, so that the skirt stays out like the drawing shows but without too much stiffness. Is it necessary? That depends on what your fashion fabric is like, and what you want the final look to be.

As for shortening the skirt, if your daughter is short you might want to take the length off the bottom because it might be too full for her height otherwise. Normally I would say take the length from a couple spots along the length of the skirt, to preserve the fullness. But that might overwhelm your daughter.

I think there was a review on this pattern last fall. Make sure you check just in case. It might have useful information.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

Does anyone have this pattern that I can buy? It is OK if it has been cut as long as all pieces are there. I am interested in the Aurora Sleeping Beauty only.
