Hi,

New to the forum. Want to purchase a Pfaff 2170, however, it may be a little pricey at this time for me. I know there were previous models to this such as the 2140 ( the older one ) and the 2144 (the newer one ). MY question is are these 3 machines the same machines once updated? From what I have read it appears that the upgrade is a free software upgrade from Pfaff. So, am I to believe that the 2140 and 2144 machines once upgraded have the same functions and are virtually the same as the newer 2170? Do they all have a large color touch screen? Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

jp9

Hi , I have the 2140 that is upgraded to the 2170 they are all the same machine. Each time a new one came out feature we're added and then you could down load the new feature on to your machine at a later time. I did get mine at my local dealer for 2,100. Which at the time when it was new was 4,000. Check your pfaff dealer. They may have one. I really like mine. I thought about upgrading then I look at the prices. I'll keep it. It does beautiful embroidery to.

Hi Skae,

Thanks for the response. It sounds like the 2140 is the way to go. You get the same machine for much less money. I will try to find a 2140 or 2144. My dealer has a new 2134 for $1,500. However, I think the 2140,2144 or 2170 would suit me much longer.

I had a 2144 for 3 years and sold it because it kept dropping the needle down into the bobbin area from the vibration of embroidery. It did beautiful embroidery. On the 2170 they changed the needle assembly to prevent this from happening. I would save a bit more if you think you will do a lot of embroidery and get the 2170.

Hi Leslie,

Thanks for sharing your experience with the 2144. So, there have been some changes. Any problems at all with the 2170?

Thanks

I have a 2140 and I asked this same question at my Pfaff dealer. The answer I got was that newer models have faster microprocessors -- just like newer home computers tend to have faster microprocessors. My husband refers to my sewing machine as a computer with a needle, and that's a good description.

I have done very little embroidery on my 2140, which has to do with my limited free time, not any deficiency that I've noticed with the machine. I'm more interested in garment sewing and quilting and haven't had any "left over" time to devote to embroidery, too.

Hi I traded 2 machines for a 2140 with few hours. (you can have the hours of sewing & embroidery checked by the dealers with a code). I had a 2056 before and the 2140 sews much better in my hands, and was made in Germany. I like it better and it has some improved features that I enjoy over the 2056....ex the bobbin wind beautifully, where the 2056 I had to rewind & rewind. It was upgraded to the 2170 and I can't tell any difference between the models except color. It is a bargain, and I encourage you to take it for a test drive and see if you like it.

everyone out there that has a problem with your needle dropping out of your Pfaff 2140-44 machine. You can order the needle housing from your pfaff and have them fix it for you. I'm going to be alittle adventurous and fix it my self.
The assembly is costing me about 15.00
They are good machines.
