Anyone have a bernina 1080 or 1090? Would you recommend them

I just bought a Bernina 1090 off of Craig's list, and I would love to hear about it from others who have used it. My sister picked it up for me out of state, and I have to wait until next week to bring it home. I am looking forward to using it to learn to quilt!

I bought the 1090 new in 1997. It was immediately after that when they came out w/the "new style" machines that use different feet. The main difference between the 1080 and 1090 (if I recall correctly) is that the 1090 comes w/hard cover and 1080 w/canvas cover. The 1090 comes w/the knee lift that the 1080 does not. And there may be just minimal stitch differences in the two but not much. My 1000 is one I purchased at an Estate Sale and it is a great basic mechanical machine. I absolutely love my 1090. I had really wanted a machine with an alphabet, and when I bought it I could have gotten another brand w/more decorative stitches & an alphabet for the same price or even less than I paid for the 1090. But the stitch quality and just the precise way it feels sold me! Mine is still going strong. It was made at the beginning of the computer sewing era, so it is much more basic than a computerized machine you would see new in stores now. But it sews beautifully and I would highly recommend it. It does have some memory, ability to elongate, mirror imaging, etc. As for prices, I have no idea. You could probably check Ebay "sold" prices, and also there are a lot of online sewing machine stores that also sell used ones. You could also call your local Bernina dealer and ask what they would sell one for if someone traded one in? It seems to me that the SM dealers also have a little book (kinda like the Kelly Blue Book for cars), only it's for sewing machines. Your local Bernina dealer might check that for you as well.

I picked one up on Craigs list for $400. It included the machine, foot pedal, manual, attachments, and hard case. The latest tag from being serviced was still attached, and the service company left their phone number and offered me the opportunity to call them and verify the service history for the past 10 years or so. I had looked for a long time for this machine, and was very pleased when I found it. I will get it from my sister next week. She was traveling, and able to pick it up out of state for me. So. there was no shipping charges or worry about the machine's condition after shipping. Janney, I hope that you find one too. I will let you know how I like it after I have used it for awhile.

My dh brought it to Illinois from CO when he was on the road. I've been very happy with it. I had an old 830 for 30 years and had taken some classes at GStreet Fabrics in Rockville MD in 1987 (?) on 1130s and 1230s and this machine reminds me of those, especially the 1130. I'd say it has a closer feel to the mechanical old 830 than to my daughter's Activa (I think, the 3/4 size one) 240 which is way more computerized. A lot of people don't sell them, and I have read/heard of some who deeply regretted selling or trading in their 1090. I think you will enjoy it!

Will 1530 era feet ( dealers call these old style now) fit a 1080? I'm having a hard time finding info on the older feet even though they are still sold. Thanks
