I've had the book for going on about a year, but have not tried making any slopers because I haven't been able to find someone to measure me correctly. DH is a sweetheart, but he does *not* have the patience to take the 60-jillion (OK, it's really just 38) required measurements, and my DD is much too young. :-) Most of my friends don't sew, let alone draft patterns, and anyway, the whole process takes a lot more time than I'm willing to ask of any of them (especially when none of them is particularly interested in being measured in return).

I'd love to find someone (or two or three someones; the more, the merrier, right?) with an objective eye, a bit of patience and some sewing/pattern drafting experience to give this a try with me. Worst case scenario: Get to meet some PR folks, measure a little, draft a little, laugh a lot. Best case: We could each end up with slopers that fit!

Any takers?

Yay! Will get back to you early next week - it's Mother's Day weekend, so I'm taking advantage of the sewing/sleeping time while I can!

Hi Christine,

Would love to find someone to do this with. Like you say.....there aren't many interested garment sewers here in southern Maine. Email me privately.

Christine,

Another option for you: I take sewing lessons from a professional Dressmaker in Canterbury, NH (NAYY, of course). I also took pattern drafting classes with her, and I have some great slopers that I draft patterns from. I know she does private lessons, and even all-day intensive lessons if that's what you want (I'm sure it would be a little bit of a hike for you). I know she recently had a woman fly in from Kansas just to draft slopers with her.

You can check out her website, NH Academy of Sewing.

Best wishes for Sloper Success!!

I'm very interested. However, the problem I keep running into is that I live in Boston proper and can only go where public transportation goes.

Christine,
I found this old post of yours and wonder if you are still sewing and/or looking for a sewing "buddy." I come to Portland once a week and would be interested in working something out. I also just discovered a new sewing instructor there that I like.
