It is almost June (how did the year get to be halfway over????), so let's start getting excited about Sewing For Children!

This is the first contest I've moderated, so please be patient with me. I think it will be a fun one. I have seven nephews and only one niece, so I am forced to spoil her by making her pretty dresses. Can't wait to see what you all come up with!

**edit 5/26/09**
Prizes are officially announced! The sponsor for this contest is SewBaby.com, and the prizes are $75 and $50 gift certificates to spend on the site! Winners will be determined by popular vote.

Here are the official rules. Note the twist that you can enter commercial children's patterns only--no self-drafted projects in this one, and no grading adult patterns down to child size. If you have any questions, please leave a comment for me here and I will do my best to get you a quick and correct answer. You have just a few more days to choose your patterns, prep your fabric, and sharpen your scissors and then you can sew like the wind!

---------------------------------------------------------

Sewing For Children

The purpose of this contest is to encourage those who sew for their childern (pre-puberty) to try out and review some of their patterns.

Commercial (major or independent printer) patterns must be used for this particular contest. No self-drafted or no pattern entries allowed. The pattern must be for children's clothing (including newborn and toddler patterns) and the final result must be a wearable garment.

Adult patterns in small sizes do not qualify. If using an all-inclusive pattern (such as Jalie), the children's size range must be used.

*Rules that apply to all contests:

- Contests begin on the 1st of the month, and all reviews must be entered for submission by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the last day of the month.

- Unless otherwise stated in the rules, patterns may be drafted, tweaked, and muslined before the contest date, but fabric for the pieces entered may not be laid out or cut till the start date of the contest. Fabric may be pre-treated before the contest date.

- Items intended for sale, or for which you were or will be paid to make, do not qualify for any contest, but items made for charity are welcome!

- Unless otherwise stated in the rules, all reviews written for a contest entry must include a picture of the entry.

* Contest Eligibility

- Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the start of a contest is eligible to enter.

- Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the end of a contest is eligible to vote in a contest.

- Any member who's won a prize (1st or 2nd place) in a contest on Pattern Review ended in the previous six months is ineligible to win another contest for a period of 6 months.

Prizes are sponsored by SewBaby.com

First Prize: $75 GC
Second Prize: $50 GC

Voting: Begins July 2nd and ends July 11th

Here I am about to work for a month (I'm usually SAHM) and knowing my sewing time will be reduced dramatically and you tempt me with this contest!!!! I have so many cute patterns. My daughter really does need some new summer dresses. . . .

Is this a one entry only contest?

I'll sew along with you...once I dig out my room again....lol. I still need to finish some of MY items, but in the last re-organization, I actually gave each kid their own shelf in my fabric storage area, I have 1.5 shelves, and hubby has .5 of a shelf (he really only gets shirts and the infrequent vest, so he doesn't need that much room...lol).

My fabric is out to finish up the wardrobe sew-along, and I have Tink's things organized by when she will need them (more summer things first, then slightly heavier things for fall, then the winter clothing.....). Monkey-boy needs some more sweats and a couple more shirts, which will be fairly easy to whip up since he actually has favorite patterns that he likes me to use.

Anyway, the point is that I will sew-along with you, but because of the surprise 3rd place prize, I can't officially enter...not that I mind the prize because I got a great pattern and will be using the remainder of the GC to purchase either another pattern or some fabric in the very near future!

I will join, but I can't make anything for anybody until this wedding is over June 20th, and I have my MOB outfit completed. Then I need to make some really cute dresses and short outfits for my 9 yo dd.

I'm looking forward to this one. I often sew for my little girl (she's 5 and cute as can be), but I think I might make something special for my very charming 7 yo boy for this contest. I don't make enough things for him!

How do you define children in terms of age? I didn't read anything about that or did I miss it?

Claudia

Claudia, there is no exact age cutoff but the rules do specify "pre-puberty." If too many people have difficulty determining whether their planned project recipient qualifies we will ask the contest committee to set a firm age. Does this help or do you need more guidance?

Oh, I'm looking forward to that. As I said, SEVEN nephews. I need ideas for cute boys' clothes.

Welcome, Ody! I know you can sew like the wind when you're motivated so I'm confident you'll get in under the wire.

ODY!!! SEW awesome to see you here!!! I honestly think you'll top me with the number of things sewn for your kiddos....I'm still recovering from the craft prep and trying to get MY things finished!! Id at least like to get another skirt or jumper made before diving into the children's things, but that may not happen either...argh..... Will do what I can when I can and hopefully will get things done and use up stash at the same time
