Date: 6/17/09 4:51 PM Anyone want to talk about resources, events, climate-appropriate clothing, etc. for Central Texas?
I'm in Central Texas but welcome sewers from all parts of this big and unique state!

Date: 6/17/09 6:26 PM I haven't gotten out for sewing related resources or events, but I'm reaching for my McCalls shift dresses most often. I did make a KS straight elastic waist skirt half lined with some leftover shirt fabric to match a Butterick shirt I need to sew the buttons on. |

Date: 6/17/09 7:22 PM Well I live right over DFW so I've heard about the ones listed in the review section but I've never been. I've just gotten mine so far from Walmart (no longer selling fabric), local Jo Ann's, Hancocks and one of the online stores, I can't remember the name. There are supposed to be some nice stores in the Dallas area, and I'm looking forward to visiting them in the future though.
What about your area? |

Date: 6/17/09 7:40 PM Abilene checking in here... well, only until the 26th since I'm moving. But, the best fabric store I've come across in Dallas has been Golden D'Or. I wrote a review on them, and the last time I went to that "garment district" (in May) I checked out the other stores in the area too but they were all a waste of time.
I prefer natural fiber fabrics and Golden D'Or has the best selection in the area. The store is HUGE too, and great prices.
Locally, there is a Wal-mart and a Hancock Fabrics... nothing fancy. ------ I'm finally a blogger!

Date: 6/17/09 7:57 PM You know what, they have TWO websites!!!
Golden D'Or
Golden D'or via parent company(?) Corinthian Mills
BUT I don't think their selection is as great, like a lot of brick and mortar places w/ websites.
I don't know where you are in Minnesota, but I understand Minneapolis has some nice fabric places. My husband's family lives up there and we're there every year for Christmas, but I never have time to go fabric hunting! This year we'll be in Asia so won't get a chance for awhile. (But I've got a whole new continent to fabric hunt... that's going to be fun! ) ------ I'm finally a blogger!

Date: 6/17/09 8:16 PM Poorpigling checking in from the other great state of Texas..the DFW/FW metroplex. Climate..are you kidding with me..already the hundreds with the dew point..humidity is king here right now and I am afraid poorpiglings little pink skin is going to be fried brown before long.. Was just at Golden D ore last week and visited with Mr Sewing Machine located in the same building yo look at feet for my Quest..good people there..By July will be doing nothing but sewing as too hot to indulge in other sinful activities. My last hurrah will be the upcoming pattern sales at Hancocks and my last splurge that Joanns half off coupon.. Appropriate clothing for a Texas summer..your birthday suit..you can put a Tshirt over it if you wish..for evenings we have a state uniform..blue jeans with a white top..takes the guesswork out of what-to-wear..Haven't seen any of that infamous blue eye shadow but then it probably would melt off anyway.. |
