This is the definite plan!

Dates: March 2010 - Friday 12th - Sunday 14th

Location: Melbourne in the city - Travelodge Docklands

Thursday night arrive

Friday shopping trip, and dinner
(possibly Southbank?)

Saturday bag workshop (straps & o rings, Nicole Mallalieu), general sewing time & dinner + gift swap
(possibly the Observatory?)

Sunday T-shirt design challenge workshop (creating the pattern & planning fabric combinations, Maree Pigdon), general sewing time & farewell.

If you are interested in coming, can you please request to join this yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/prsduweekend/, and tell me your PR name in the request comments (or message me here if you forget). There is a database set up there to help the volunteers organise enough spots for what you're interested in. For example, if everyone is interested in a bag making workshop, we may need to run more than one or get multiple teachers.

I'm happy to put my hand up as general co-ordinator of this again, but not for doing all the jobs. I know you'll all help if it's going to happen!

How many people are interested in coming on a PR weekend?? In or near Melbourne next March?

Here's two possibilities, comment on your preference & add in your own ideas...

(a) shopping, dinners & short help-each-other style workshops

(b) paid expert help, actual sewing weekend

Is this for anyone who is in Melbourne, or only people who are members of Friends of PR?

I'd be interested in attending possibly (a) or (b).

Cool! Where are you?

The more the merrier, this is for anyone who wants to come. If someone wants to fly in from the other side of the world we'd be thrilled!

Last time we had some New Zealanders & Aussies from Tasmania, Victoria, NSW and Qld (did I miss anyone?). Others wanted to come but weren't able to make it.

ETA - all these are just suggestions to get us started. I'm basing it on discussions from last time though so hopefully it'll help the ball start rolling.

I'll say I'm in but hard to know this far out!

If you wanted a really grand weekend you could combine the lot, ie paid expert on Frid or Sat, shopping on the non-expert day with Sunday as a get together, self help day. We could do a 'better' restaurant for a special weekend dinner one night and casual meals for the rest.

Hey, what's money for but spending anyway lol!!

That's a ditto for me too. I'll certainly make every effort to come to at least one of the organised activities on the weekend, if not more but it will depend on the rest of the family's schedule.

I'm just wondering though about March as our date. A lot happens in Melbourne in March so accomodation may be hard to get plus also expensive. I'd like to see people spend their money on fabric rather than a bed.

Hmm, totally agree!

IS it better to go... later into May? earlier into February?

April is Easter, school hols & the Comedy Festival, so that may be pretty busy too.

I thought probably best not to choose a cold part of the year, but if you think that's better speak up.

If we go for a sewing retreat kind of thing we could locate outside of the metro area & travel in for fabric shopping? Just a thought.

Are there any quieter months? It is probabaly more about picking some quiet weekends, like not Easter, but remember the price of the airfares will increase at busy times. When and where depends on what we want to do. When do the winter fabrics come into the shops? Or do we want a sewing retreat? I would aim to come to either of these events.
