I want to make the sleeves on butterick pattern 0463, but I want to make them elastic at the hems to make cute little ruffled cap sleeves. I have looked at examples in stores and the sleeves have the elastic sewn right onto the fabric without a casing. Can anyone tell me how to do this, and what changes I will have to make to the existing sleeves inorder to have extra fabric to gather with the elastic to make the ruffled look?

I'd be interested in knowing this too! Especially because I wonder if there's any way to attach the elastic without the zigzag showing on the right side of the fabric?

I can describe how to actually apply the elastic.
First, you have to be certain what length to cut the elastic. Play with how tight or loose you want it to be.
I used very narrow elastic and marked where the elastic was to go the inside of the sleeve with disappearing marker. I applied the elastic after the hem was done, but before all sleeve seams were stitched.
I used small zigzag stitches to attach the ends of the elastic within the under-sleeve seam allowances. Then I used very big zigzag stitches to go over the elastic while stretching it and holding the elastic over the line, but being careful to not actually stitch throught the elastic.
