Date: 7/21/09 10:30 PM Hi:
I am looking to make a Great Little Black Dress.
Does anyone have any suggestions for patterns currently on the market? I am over 50 and not looking to look like a 21 yr old. I'd like something classic that can do dress up and serviceable enough for memorial & funeral duty....
Thanks,

Date: 7/22/09 9:04 AM I highly recomend the Go Patterns LBD pattern.

Myself and a bunch of others have reviewed it and utterly loved it. The drafting is exquisite, the instructions are, hands down, the best I've ever seen on a commercial pattern, and I wear the finished dress CONSTANTLY. It really is the perfect dress - I wear it from everything to nice restaurants to birthday parties to those "oh god nothing to wear!" moments of panic!

Reply to Fashionista Date: 7/22/09 3:26 PM Fashionista, This is a great question - and I am "of that age" in which an LBD for memorials, funerals, as well as the occasional dressy dinners would be really handy. I know most people are pretty casual in regards to funeral and memorial clothes these days. But I too like to dress it up a bit WITHOUT looking like a dowdy matron.
There were some good suggestions that I'm going to mark down - probably the wrap dress (knits for sitting comfort) in a 3/4 sleeve (all season that way!), or the V8593 looked good for arms over 50 if that's an issue for you (definitely is for me.) Let us know what you decide! Next page>> |

Reply to ewema Date: 7/22/09 5:36 PM Nothing special. I bought them at JCPenny's a few years back. Yes, I buy shoes there. They actually have some nice ones every once in a while. ------ dawn

Reply to cabinbaby Date: 7/22/09 11:07 PM Thanks for the Great Reply and all the photos with explanations.... You look fantastic in the dress and I do agree it is the 'perfect LBD' for you! I would need to add sleeves and unfortunately my body does not look like yours at this stage of the game - so the fitted waist - a very important part of the whole look- isn't going to work on me... But if I had the right 'bod' that would be THE perfect LBD.
Thank You for your great Respose to my question.
