Can you buy it? What's comparable?

Rayon/lycra. Nothing special about it.

uuug. It figures!!

what does the nylon-polyamide add to a rayon/lycra blend?? more body I'm guessing.

what are some other examples of nylon-y fabrics? or polyamide. I don't think I ever see this on our fabric bolts.

Polyamide is very similar to polyester. Not to get too chemistry teacher on you, but where polyester monomers (the individual pieces that get chemically linked together to form a polymer or plastic) are linked together by carbon-oxygen bonds, polyamide monomers use carbon-nitrogen bonds.

In the clothing industry, polyester is typically known (not surprisingly) as polyester. Polyamide however, is more commonly known as nylon, like the stuff used in stockings, track suits, windbreakers and swimwear. Both polyester and polyamide (nylon) are beneficial in clothing because they are sturdy and wrinkle resistant.

Probably way more than you wanted to know!

I love a chemistry lesson!

In the sewing room a viscose polyamide elastane can be considered the same as rayon nylon lycra. The good stuff is usually hoarded by the designers! You can fondle this blend at Nordstroms.

I don't pop in here as often as I should. I really must make more time to hang out at PR!

Glad everyone enjoyed the chem lesson - now, if I could only get all my students to feel the same way!

Would it be correct to say that viscose polyamide elastane IS Rayon/Nylon/Lycra, except that the latter is made up of brand names?
