Date: 8/12/09 1:26 AM Got my new toy today, I had to go around the house to find it after my hubby hid it away, the wretch Have to preempt that I am usually quite superstitious, so I hate to say that anything is great in case I jinx myself later, but since I am writing for the sake of many women's sanity out there, hopefully the gods will have mercy on me and not curse my machine if I say something good.
First impressions, it's bigger than my Bernina 163. The LCD panel says "hello" when you turn it on. The bobbin winder automatically goes on after pushing the lever, so no need to use the foot pedal. Be careful that your thread is properly seated in the bobbin before you push the lever, otherwise you get some nice thread wound under the bobbin. (Being used to my Bernina having to push the pedal to get the bobbin winding started, surprise!!)
There is an automatic needle threader lever on the side of the machine that delivers the thread to the needle and threads it, no more pulling the thread across the needle with one hand while operating the needle threader with the other hand.
There are bobbin threading and needle threading numbering guides on the machine so you don't have to refer to the manual if you switch back and forth to different machines.
The machine is quiet in operation, feels smooth, and I love the thread trimming action on the foot pedal. I also tried out buttonholes. The automatic buttonhole sensor foot is huge compared to what I'm used to. tried out the standard buttonhole, the default setting on my first try -- stitch length is 0.6 which was a little sparse, so I reduced length to 0.3. that looked about right for me. The keyhole buttonhole was nice. Stitching looks nice and straight, and the manual seems to be adequate. I tried stitching on cotton and jeans material, the stitching looked nice on both, but I didn't change the needle switching back and forth so I may not have the best conditions to show off the stitching. will have to post pictures later when I can get hubby to help me. Hope everyone else gets their machines soon so we can share our experiences. Next page>> |

Reply to sewnew Date: 8/12/09 1:35 AM OMG wait till everyone gets a load of this..it even talks.. So if it says hello..does it say anything else..like "goodbye" when you turn it off? Or maybe "Whoops" if you make an error?
Wow, congratulations..I hope you enjoy your lovely machine. Next page>> |

Reply to sewnew Date: 8/12/09 5:32 AM wow congratulations on your new machine!
I am wowed by all the stitches on the inside lid of your machine.
I am sure you will have great fun stitching out samples of them all.
I'm sure all the folks on here have masses of questions, but I am keen to know what is the max stitch width and what is measurement from the needle to the side harp of the machine.?
Hoping these machines will come to the UK soon. Its looking like it might be September now.
Happy sewing!
