Contest dates: Sept 1st through 30th, 2009

This is a contest to create a lined jacket.

Rules:
- Jacket must be wearable by a person.
- Jacket must be fully lined.
- Jacket must not have any exposed interior seams.
- Jacket must have sewn on sleeves

- For entry into the contest, there must be a review of your jacket including pictures of both the inside and the outside of the garment. Details on the method you used for creating the jacket will be useful to those voting.

Definition:
A jacket is a garment meant to be worn over another top. It has sewn-in sleeves and may be any length from cropped (midriff) to full length (typically worn as a coat at that length). Being lined means at least 2 layers of fabric and no exposed seams. Bound or otherwise finished but exposed seam allowances do not qualify as lined for this contest.

Clarifications:
- Design details (pockets, lapels, sleeve length, jacket length, etc) are up to the entrant.
- Reversible jackets do not count as lined for this contest.
- Cloaks and capes are not jackets.
- Sleeves may be set-in, raglan, or dropped, but may not be cut-on (dolman or kimono).
- Any type of fasteners for the jacket opening can be used (buttons, zippers, frogs, hook and eye, ties) but are not required.
- Lining may be stitched down to the hem as is typical of a tailored jacket, or may be left loose as is typical of a tailored coat.
- Jacket does not need to be tailored in style. It just needs to be lined.
- Any method that produces a lined jacket with no exposed seams can be used. The lining may be inserted by hand or sewn in by machine; lining may be "bagged"; lining may be quilted to the fashion fabric.

Prizes: Two Gift Certificates from Michael's Fabrics.

The contest runs from September 1 through September 30. The contest will be decided by votes.

Voting guideline suggestions:
- Does the jacket meet the rules criteria (lined jacket)
- Does the review include sufficient information to judge the construction of the jacket?
- Does the construction of the jacket match the declared skill level of the entrant?
- Is the lining fabric appropriate relative to the fashion fabric (weight, type)

*Rules that apply to all contests:

1. Contests begin on the 1st of the month, and all reviews must be entered for submission by midnight Eastern Time on the last day of the month.

2. Fabric may be pretreated before the contest date.

3. Items intended for sale, or for which you were or will be paid to make, do not qualify for any contest, but items made for charity are welcome!

4. Unless otherwise stated in the rules, all reviews written for a contest entry must include a picture of the entry.

Contest Eligibility

1. Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the start of a contest is eligible to enter. Same eligibility for voting.

2. Any member who's won a prize (1st or 2nd place) in a contest on Pattern Review ended in the previous six months is ineligible to win another contest for a period of 6 months."

How exciting. I'm definitely going to enter and am working on a muslin for my jacket now.

This sounds like fun. I was planning on making a biker jacket for Fall, so this might just be a push I need.

I've been promising my husband a couple of jackets for a year now.

I think I'll make a lined jacket for him, and use it as a fitting project for a jacket I'll make in December for the menswear contest. I think if he got the benefit of a couple of contest projects, he would be very happy!

And I need a raincoat and a wool coat for the winter so it will be jacket happy environment around here.

Post your pattern choices when you decide - I'm curious to see what everyone is making.

Tanya, it's a Frankenpattern that has contributions from so many other patterns I've actually lost count -- 8, 10, 12, who knows. My pattern is classic shoulder princess with lapels from Simplicity 4698, an OOP pattern from the Top 10 patterns list. I haven't decided on the fabric or the tailoring details yet, but since I can't start the actually jacket until September 1st, I figure I have time to decide.

I have never sewn a jacket before, but am tempted to try. I'm going to hunt through my pattern stash for candidates.

O great! Perfect timing. I've been meaning to make a jacket for myself for a while now. I haven't decided on the pattern yet.
This will be my first jacket ever. I'm excited :)

Can I enter this jacket in the wardrobe contest too, and the pattern stash contest?

So, are outerwear jackets and winter coats included in this? Not that I (planning to sew my first-ever coat soon) would be brave enough to enter a coat into a contest. I'm just curious about the definition. I looked at last year's gallery, and there didn't seem to be any entries that I would call outerwear.
