I've been working hard at dieting and have lost over 20 lbs. That's all fine and dandy, but it does cause issues related to sewing.

The clothes I sewed before don't fit.

I don't want to alter them.

What should I sew now?

Darn....I have to resize everything.

Will it fit me in a month?

Who would like to join me in a sew along as you are losing weight, and pick out some patterns, styles and fabric that will make the transition easier?

Ya! Last time we all had lunch I noticed you were getting a little baggy in the caboose!

At this point I am rolling my pants up at the waist so they aren't hanging at my knees. You know what that means!!! My TNT pants that I took so long to fit----don't anymore! That means I have to basically start over, but thankfully I know more how to do it. I wonder if that bedable ruler is going to be a different shape???

Fine I'll switch to skirts (seems like a good interim plan to me, don't you think?)

Okay, so this is what I've been contemplating, a wrap skirt. That would work well as the belly/butt get smaller. And I'm thinking a wrap with ties, not buttons, though buttons would work if you use some as accent.

I don't have a pattern, but couldn't I just work something up with a regular pattern? I'm thinking a standard A-line shape (I think that's what it's called) and going from there.

That's my plan at least, I think I'll go play with it, and I'd have to go out and buy some fabric though, I don't have a stash, and I sure could use one right now for motivation.

LOL, Peggy, that's what everyone says.

So I just went to HobbyLobby as they have McCalls for 99 cents and bought this wrap skirt pattern.

The reviews are all good, though the waist is supposed to be tricky. I'll hopefully not goof on that.

Fabric is washing, so I'm off to play with the pattern. No muslin.

What a wonderful idea for a sew along. We're just heading into summer here so luckily that kind of sewing is generally pretty simple to start with.

I just joined a gym a couple of weeks ago and have started getting serious about what goes in my gob. I've only lost about 2kgs, but it's a start.

I don't want the clothes issue to put me off losing weight. I'm even tempted to BUY clothes in the interim. It's funny how I'm happy to spend money on clothes that won't fit me for long, but I'm not willing to spend time and effort on sewing them. I don't really have an option, though.

I'm also don't have the patience for altering things if it's going to be too hard. Having said that, I do have an article from an early Threads magazine (Aug/Sept 2005, #120) about sewing for weight loss. There's lots of ideas for sewing garments that are easy to adjust. I tried to look for the article online but they only have a preview. Sorry.

Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to get my head around this very issue.

I'm in. I have a wedding to attend on 9/4 and suddenly realized I had nothing to wear -- I bought something for that today, but will need things for fall and winter as I return to "normal" size. My lifestyle has also changed with retirement, so the types of things I will use also needs to be evaluated along with the usual body shape issues.

That was one of the first things I ever made when I started sewing last year. It went together really easy.

I need to lose about 15 pounds (only about 5 down so far) and have been holding off on doing some muslins for dresses and pants.

Do you like wrap dresses? They are very forgiving and will go with you as you lose weight.

I have the opposite problem. I gained weight. Finally at the weight I should be at after being severely underweight for over two years. Weight loss isnt' the only way we dont' fit our clothes.

I'm posting here more as an encouragement. Good luck to everyone in both endevors, sewing and losing weight.
