I was going to stock up on some serger thread & noticed that they now carry Toldi-Lock, which is overlock thread by Gutermann. Anyone have experience with this overlock thread? It's Gutermann, so I would think it would be good.

All of my other serger threads are Maxi-Lock. I use regular Gutermann thread for all general sewing and it is great, so I thought this new serger thread from Gutermann would be just as good for its purpose. Both are 100% polyester, but I noticed several differences immediately: First, Toldi-Lock is finer and lighter weight - probably making it good for finishing edges but perhaps not as strong for the seam itself. Second, Toldi-Lock provides 2,500m of thread on a cone while Maxi-Lock provides 3,000yds. You'd need to compare the prices available to you to see if that matters. Third, Toldi-Lock does not specifiy country of manufacture inside the cone while Maxi-Lock does. I like to know where things are made. Fourth, Toldi-Lock does not provide the manufacture date inside the cone so that you can keep track of how old the thread is while Maxi-Lock specifies month and year of manufacture. Finally, Toldi-Lock does not specify color or dye lot inside the cone while Maxi-Lock does and different dye lots occasionally look quite different. That only matters in some applications, though. All of that said, however, it might be just fine for most purposes and I would buy it if I really needed something and didn't want to wait. But I think I'm going to stick with Maxi-Lock. It is available several places online at a very reasonable price. HTH

It seems more consistent in weight than maxi-lock & joann generic. Maybe I'm just brainwashed towards Gutermann. The other serger thread I have is Maxilock. While it is 'slightly' thinner that Maxilock, I have seen no problems with using it. It stays threaded in the tensions and I have had no breaks. Usually I buy online and get the Maxilock, but needed some colors quickly so I bought this. I still prefer Maxilock, but will not hesitate to buy this if I absolutely need to. HTH ------ Karen
