Date: 9/16/09 1:34 AM I wanted to get a pattern for some decorative pillows for my bed (yes I know it's often easier without one but I'm trying to get myself used to using patterns). I bought a McCalls pattern for patio cushions instead because I liked the design.
Now the instructions are telling me to line the pillows with fleece (facing wrong side of outer fabric), even when using a pillow form. Why? Is this maybe for outdoor use? Do I still need to line with fleece if I'm keeping them indoors? My outside fabrics include cotton and organza (as an overlay) so I'm really concerned the fleece will feel funny under the outer fabric.
What should I do? |

Reply to Jackieb227 Date: 9/16/09 9:19 AM I use fusible fleece on all my pillows, front and back. I mostly make my pillows with home decor or upholstery fabric. It really beefs them up, and they just look better.
I also typically embroider mine, and embroidering through the fleece adds a nice loft to the design. ------ Bernina 830 • Bernina 630 • Bernina 1300MDC • Babylock BLCS • HQ16 • Singer 201-2

Reply to CJ Tinkle Date: 9/16/09 9:44 AM Thank you! The cotton duck I'm using is home deco weight so it should be ok. And you embroider through it too?! Ok now I've gone from nervous to excited - I'm going to look for the fusible fleece and try it today! |

Reply to Jackieb227 Date: 9/16/09 5:44 PM Cotton duck is wonderful to embroider on! You might think to use a 90/14 needle, but a 75/11 will work better!
I'm currently working on a set of pillows for my folks for Christmas. This is upholstery fabric, fused to Pellon fusible fleece, and embroidered through both. I hoop the stabilizer only, spray it with 505 adhesive spray, and baste my pillow top to the stabilizer.

Reply to Jackieb227 Date: 10/6/09 11:40 PM The pattern probably meant fleece as in flannel, not polarfleece. If you are using a lighter weight fabric I would underline your pillows with flannel. Just cut and sew the flannel with your face fabric as if it was a single layer. This will give it more body and a richer look. |
