Date: 10/5/09 4:25 PM Can anyone help me? My Gypsy Gripper does not want to hold its grip like it used to. I have cleaned it and the ruler with windex, I tried wetting the suction cups, but it will not hold. I will try Vaseline next, but I thought someone else may have had this problem. ------ Voet |

Date: 10/5/09 5:35 PM I did not have any petroleum jelly, so I used Bag Balm instead. It seems to be doing the trick. However, I would still be interested in hearing if anyone else has found a way to address this problem. ------ Voet |

Date: 10/5/09 6:14 PM My inclination would be to clean the suction pads on the gripper really well. Dust and body oils can build up on suction surfaces like these (although you can't really see it) and the suction cups loose their grip.
I'd try something as simple as dishwashing liquid in some warm water. Dishwashing liquid is one of the best things I've found for breaking up common oils. "Special" cleaners sometimes include solvents or cleaning oils, which probably won't give you the results you want. If you can remove the suction cups for washing, all the better, but I don't know if that's possible.

I just got one last week so I have not encountered this problem yet. I would be inclined to wipe down the suction cups and the ruler with rubbing alcohol. Alcohol is the cure all for everything. Except the black finish on a vintage sewing machine. |
