Date: 10/5/09 5:36 PM I searched the site but could not find a review or even topic and am wondering if anyone out there has tried Misty Fuse for applique? I am working on a baby quilt with applique's and I used Steam a Seam 2 and it feels so stiff! Maybe it will become softer after laundering, but I wonder if anyone out there has tried Misty Fuse? Or is there a really soft interfacing brand you favor? I am planning another appliqued quilt in the future but not until I can find a better alternative to Steam a Seam. Thanks for all responses.

Date: 10/7/09 3:34 PM I've not used Misty Fuse because I don't like the way it handles for applique. I've used Steam a Seam, and didn't have a problem with stiffness because my applique pieces are usually small. Also I used a machine blanket stitch to secure the edges of applique rather than a satin stitch.
If applique pieces are large, the recommended technique from several sources is to cut out the center of the traced, paper-backed piece of fusible leaving only about one-quarter inch inside the traced line. Then iron that to your fabric, and trim on the traced line. This method makes for a much softer feeling quilt. Sure hope that this all makes sense. |

Reply to Babe B Date: 10/9/09 2:07 PM Thank you for your response and the technique. I will have to try it out next time around and do some more research. I am not a good hand sewer so I am always looking for better ways to utilize my machine. Thanks. |

Reply to Berniev Date: 10/9/09 5:08 PM You can also buy Steam a Seam "lite" and in 1/4" rolls - that way you can just apply the 1/4" all around the edge of the applique.
I can't live without the Steam a Seam rolls - they come 2 to a package and ever since I "discovered" it I get nervous if I don't have at least 1 roll handy! ------ Sewing is my therapy! |
