Date: 10/8/09 10:04 AM I tried a few of the links in another post to find modal fabric, but no luck.
It is sooooooooo soft and I'd love to get some. other than EBAY - I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Has anyone sewn on it? Do you treat it like a knit or woven?
perhaps someone knows of the other names it would be sold under. I asked at my local JoANn fabrics and they had no idea of what it was other than perhaps somewhere with the activewear fabric or swimwear fabric.
thanks

Reply to avatrx Date: 10/8/09 11:15 AM I googled modal fabric and some sites came up, so that's the only thing I could recommend you trying. I've never heard of it before. -- Edited on 10/8/09 11:22 AM -- ------ Carol - * I always have more time to sew *

Reply to sewsally Date: 10/8/09 1:12 PM I guess it's similar to rayon, but not quite the same. It is the most buttery soft fabric I've ever felt. I'd like to make some PJ's out of it. According to what I've read - it is breathable like cotton but drapes and is wrinkle resistant. It's a silky, drapey fabric.
If you ever get into a JCPenney store, look in their sleepwear dept. I think Sears has it also. it's really soft. I mean really really soft! It's like a woven version of minky fleece its' that soft. |

Reply to avatrx Date: 10/8/09 1:20 PM I ordered a swatch of black stretch modal from fabric.com, however all they seem to have now is the burnt orange color.

Maybe they will have more in stock at a later date? |

| Isn't modal the same thing as rayon? | Apparently it is rayon made from beech trees. To the unintiated, it is probably indisinguishable from any other rayon.
It is a bit like the way "bamboo" is marketed as if it meant something, but it is really just rayon made from bamboo.
