Maybe this post is in the wrong "box", and hopefully whoever is in charge of this, could redirect it. But it occurred to me that it would be nice if we could have an Embellishment Class. I understand Kenneth King's has to do with making an embellishment for the flap of an evening bag, but I'd like to embellish pockets, yokes, buttonholes, etc. Prairie Points going down the lapel of a jacket or front seam would be nice. Like something along the line of the New Techniques Contest. This would be great for those of us (ahem) who are creatively challenged. Is there something already in place?

WELL, Aren't you lucky this has nothing to do with computers..
There are loads of books on this subject. That might help you get started. Just looking at the pics are very motivational.

Embellishment is not hard. Its part arts and crafts, part sewing, or one or both. A kinda play as you go sort of hobby.

Of course, Miss Fairchild, you can always pvt msg me if you get stuck on a project.

I know what you mean, Beth. I like books, but classes are nice because they typically bring you through a particular project, rather than just throw techniques at you. Kenneth King's class would probably have some ideas you could transfer to other projects, though.

I just did a search at Amazon. Nancy Zieman's book says it has some specific projects, although most state that they are home dec.

This book, Easy Embellishments for Creative Sewing, talks about projects. I love the look of the jacket on the cover. And Fine Embellishment Techniques: Classic Details for Today's Clothing's reviews state it is good for beginner embellishers.

I saw that, Deepika, and I kept reading it to understand. Here's what it says:
Quote:
In this class we will cover how to manipulate the trims to create the embellishment, by making a sample of the work. The student will create a sample of the embellishment which may be adapted to attach to the flap of an evening bag.
Here's what I think it means: Using trim to make a small embellishment to attach to something like an evening bag {or shoes---remember those anyone?}

What I was thinking of was we take maybe four items we'd like to embellish: Jeans or jacket pocket, lapel, hat, handbag and have someone demonstrate some examples of how these could be embellished. Sort of like allowing our creativity to come forth.

I got the idea from two sources: Sew Vintage, a book that shows how to embellish clothing using vintage linens, and the small thumbnail for Shannon's Build a Better Jean class. I suppose I could take the jean class, but I already have some nice pairs of jeans, with a rotated back dart into a yoke (all thanks to Shannon) and I'd be wasting my time in class. Maybe I could find some examples in the books that are referenced, but I think a class could be better.

I think you're on to something here; I too like the jacket on the cover, and that's pretty much what I'm looking for. I've saved it to my Wish List.

I saw this one and it seems to be a little too glitzy for me; but if I were about 30 years younger...

Thank you!

Do you happen to have, or can get ahold of, some of Nancy Zieman's videos, specifically some of her Embellishments series? Sorry, I don't know if Sewing With Nancy still has a video rental, but that would be one place to obtain them. (Just a suggestion)

I would consider that option
