Date: 10/12/09 1:39 PM All of a sudden my computer won't allow me to copy files onto any kind of external media, flash card, external hard drive or disk. I get and invalid ms-dos function. I've always done this in the past so can't understand why it won't allow me to. I know it must be a software issue as in Embird I can write to my flash card. Anyone ever run into this? I'm thinking it might be a Vista issue. Don't like not being able to back anything up. |

Reply to Sewwolf Date: 10/12/09 3:34 PM Have you downloaded the Vista Service Pack 2 recently? I did and it took 3 hours with the tech support to get my camera back and functioning. I am still finding items that won't work or have been changed in a way I don't think is for the better. I haven't tried to backup anything since. Maybe I should.

Reply to jannw Date: 10/12/09 3:59 PM no before I couldn't as I had another problem with internet couldn't connect to various things due to a partially left part of Norton's. That took a while to figure out. I'm sure it probably something I just have to check or uncheck just a matter of finding out what. |

Reply to Sewwolf Date: 10/12/09 4:12 PM I googled "ms dos invalid function vista" and got a lot of hits. It's not just you. Have you looked on the microsoft support page? You can type in your error code (error = xxxxxx ) and look for a fix. If you have updates automatically installing, it could be a new update that's causing the problem. You could try uninstalling the recent updates one by one until you fix the problem. You can always reinstall them if it doesn't work.
I'm having a problem with service pack 2. We keep losing our wireless connection on the only computer in the house running Vista. We're also having usb recognition problems caused by 2 updates (this is also a known problem). I've uninstalled the updates but can't uninstall sp2. It removed all my restore points so I can't even go back. One of my tasks for today is to save everything to an external hard drive and reformat. ------ chris
