Date: 10/14/09 9:25 AM I am making a quilt that requires me to mark lines on the fabric. In the past, I always used one of those chalk pencils. But, I hate them because the leads were always breaking and I didn't get great results.
So, I decided to pick up one of those chalk tubes at the quilt shop. It has chalk powder and a teeny little metal roller to dispense it. I had seen one in use at a quilt class I took a few months back.
What a difference! Where have I been and why didn't I use this awesome little gadget before now? It's about the same feeling I had when I learned how to use a rotary cutter.
What about you, is there anything that made your day along your road to quilting that you will share? ------ Carol - * I always have more time to sew *

Reply to diningroomseamstress Date: 10/14/09 2:13 PM Can you post a link? I'm looking at the chalk thing that looks like an eraser (I think it's called a Quilt Pounce) and am curious about it.
The one thing I can share is the straight stitch needle plate (I posted that topic a few weeks ago) and how much difference it made in my quilting. Also, the quilting foot (not the one with the "fence" on the side, but the one that has markings on both toes. Reply to Miss Fairchild Date: 10/14/09 2:49 PM It is a Clover brand Chaco-Liner Marker. Here is a link, but I bought mine from my local quilt shop. I love it, it makes quick work of drawing lines on my fabric. I like the looks of the Quilt Pounce too, for stencil work.

Reply to diningroomseamstress Date: 10/15/09 0:18 AM The Chaco-Liner Marker sounds very interesting. I'll have to keep my eyes out for it as I would like to try it.
I have used Pounce and it works very well with stencils. With commercial stencils basically you just rub it across the stencil. My homemade stencils are just a little thicker and may need a light up and down motion. The Pounce "chalk" is made to stay longer than ordinary chalk. It definitely is quick and easy to use. ------ Martha |

Date: 10/20/09 10:22 PM Wow! I've yet to find a marking device that I really like, but this sounds great! Does the chalk brush off nicely like it says in the product description? ------ ~Gem in the prairie |

Reply to stirwatersblue Date: 10/21/09 8:18 AM It makes a very thin mark and brushes off quite easily. For me, it is a great tool. I think I have given up on chalk marking pencils. ------ Carol - * I always have more time to sew *
