Reply to Marian Faupel Date: 10/17/09 3:36 PM I took a look at it online just now. Yes, it seems expensive; fortunately, I'm one of those people that enjoy cutting. Are you thinking about getting one? ------ Carol - * I always have more time to sew *

Date: 10/17/09 4:33 PM I looked at it as I hate cutting! but I can't see that its worth the cost. besides the fact that the initial machine is expensive the plates for various shapes are also costly, you are also limited to size by the size of the templates. I also noticed when I tried it that some small threads get stuck between the foam and blads and you will need to do a bit of tidying up on it.
I also read about something called alto's quilt cut. I can't find anyone who has one here but that seems like much better value for money if you are in the states.
In the end I have the accuquilt a miss because cost was not worth it. if you have arthritis or really struggle with cutting then, i can see it. |

Date: 10/21/09 11:04 PM I bought an Accuquilt Go a few weeks ago and so far I love it ! My first project using my Accuquilt Go was to cut 1/2 square triangles that were then used to make flying geese. These blocks are probably the most accurate flying geese I've ever made. I cut about 64 1/2 square triangles in about 4 minutes. Cutting fabric is one of my least favorite things to do and I'm not super accurate so the Go cutter is perfect for me. I did buy the Go vs the Studio because the Go is quite a bit less expensive and it takes up less space. There are fewer dies available for the Go, but plenty to keep me busy for a long long time.
If you're thinking of buying and you missed the sale, send me an email and I can give you the name of an Accuquilt dealer that offers a discount and free shipping for orders over $100.00. |

Date: 10/22/09 5:22 AM I got an Accuquilt Go! for Christmas last year when I started quilting. (I also learned rotary cutting, since it's an essential skill!) It's perfect for cutting more difficult/time-consuming shapes, like circles and hearts. I use a lot of squares in my quilting, since learning a piecing technique that does not require piecing of triangles, so I use this cutter regularly for that because it's quick and accurate. I use the metal pick that came with the machine to clear out any fibers that get stuck in the dies. I'm pleased with how well it has held up, no problems of any kind even when I do a lot of cutting. |

Reply to sewmia Date: 11/4/09 1:10 PM sewmia, do the blades in the Accuquilt Go! ever need to be replaced? I didn't see blades when I browsed this item and I was just wondering if the blades ever get dull and what happens if they do and you can't replace the blades? Thanks. ------ Carol - * I always have more time to sew *

Date: 11/9/09 4:59 PM Carol,
The blades are part of the die that you run through the rollers on the GO or Studio. The blades are on the die board in the shape of that specific die -6" square, 3" 1/2 square triangle, flower applique, etc. The blades are surrounded by a dense foam, kind of buried so you can't see them. I've read that the blades should last a good long time. I guess it would depend on how much you use that particular die. If the blades get dull and won't cut anymore I'd guess it's time to replace that die.
Hope that helps. If you've got more questions ask and I'll answer what I can.

Date: 11/16/09 3:15 PM I purchased a GO in October. I've since bought about 30 dies......I seem to be one of those "all or nothing" people. I have done a fair amount of cutting -- mostly a 2-1/2" binding. (I was frustrated rotary cutting because the fabric would be a little curved at the fold so that was my big motivation to buy the GO). I really do love it, however, I do believe it is a luxury item. There are other ways to get these shapes (rotary, scissors) but truthfully, I love having the machine and just sending fabric through for the heck of it! The critters are oh-so cute and I've used them as nametags on my quilts. I have a lady who sold me the machine for $100 off. She gives 20-30% off retail for dies so let me know and I'll email her info to you. Jenni/ FL |

Reply to diningroomseamstress Date: 11/17/09 12:24 PM Sorry, just saw this! Renee is right, the blades are contained within the dies. One thing the ladies at the quilt shop said is that the plastic topper that goes over the die (it is thin, translucent white) makes a difference in the quality of the cut, so if the die isn't cutting cleaning, I should replace that. I haven't had to replace one yet, since I purchased it in January. |
