I inherited a Zundapp sewing machine and recently took it in to the repair shop to see if it could be usable again. It appears to be made in Germany post WWI but before WWII.

The shop wants $125 to do the full repair - Replace the power cord, correct the timing and tension, tune it up. Hubby said he can replace the power cord which brings the bid down to $100.

So is this machine worth repairing, or should I just keep it as a display piece?

Wow, that's a name I haven't heard in a while! Among fanciers of vintage motorcycles, Zundapp is a name you occasionally run into. If you look at the lower right corner of the linked page, there's a picture of a sewing machine made by the company. Who knew they made sewing machines?

I'd keep it for the sleek styling and get it repaired. It might be a great heavy duty machine for home use. The link that Elona posted has a really nice picture.

The folks at this group might be able to help you out.

I found a picture of a Zundapp there, in their picture library:

WOW, WHAT A STUNNER! By all means, get it repaired and back to working condition. What a magnificent example of German streamline moderne. Just beautiful.

Absolutely beautiful. Love that machine. Never heard of it before, so thanks very much. Please review it after you make it usable!

You might want to check to see if US feet will fit it. The machine looks like a short shank to me, but US and metric sizing can be a pain!

Gorgeous machine! By all means, get it repaired.

Here's a picture of a lovely green version:

What color is yours?

They were made in Germany after WW2, by a motorcylce and scooter manufacturer, which you probably already know from Googling "Zundapp."
