Date: 10/20/09 8:31 PM The title says it all...(and yes, I already checked with the Serger boards, no responses about quilting there:)
I just ordered a 900cp on a whim at a great price, but now I'm wondering if it will have any use at all. Might I be able to use it for machine finishing bindings? Making a felted cashmere strip quilt? Embellishment?
If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate them so much! |

Date: 11/1/09 1:13 PM If you purchase the separate binder attachement, I think it could be pretty handy for finishing quilts, using the chain stitch.
Using the chain stitch with embroidery thread in the looper would be really nice for free form quilting too.
I don't really see any big quilting advantage for the Coverpro over a regular straight stitch machine. But if you ever plan to sew knits, you will LOVE the Coverpro hem. ------ Cheap fabrics, like cheap shoes, are a false economy.

Reply to SecondHandRogue Date: 11/1/09 6:37 PM When I bought mine I kept looking for the advantages for quilters as it advertised for quilting but I hadn't found anything that would be good for quilting. Maybe using chainstitch for piecing. I really don't think I would want to bind my quilt with it. |

Reply to diningroomseamstress Date: 11/15/09 10:27 AM I never thought of using a serger to quilt. What a neat idea. I wonder if the thread adds any weight? I'd give anything to have my backs neater.

Reply to JudithB Date: 11/17/09 7:48 PM I made one quilt with a serger- and it's my last. The seams popped up and made the quilt very bulky and not smooth.
I have the Janome coverstitch. It too leaves a thick bottom that I don't like. I might put binding on with it, but that's it. ------ Sewing: A creative mess is better than tidy idleness. ~Author Unknown

Date: 12/16/09 11:32 AM The uses would be strictly for decoration in my mind. For instance, use decorative thread in the looper and put the looper side on the top of the quilt for some decorative stitching. ------ Jennifer
