Large Scale Houndstooth Pencil Skirt
Is this a bad idea for a no-waist petite plus size?

I love large scale houndstooth and would love to knock off this Alexander McQueen skirt, similar to this style sold at Net-a-Porter:

I'm a rectangle/starter apple (i.e. not much of a waist to speak of) so I'm wondering if I should keep the style but go for a solid fabric?

Also, has anyone actually seen any large scale houndstooth for sale?

I can't comment on the large scale houndstooth, but, wow! I love that skirt!

In my mind I picture 0.5-1 inch teeth as large scale, but if an even bigger scale exists I'd be very intrigued!

I bought some large scale houndstooth at my local Hancocks. It's a home dec cotton, but washed up nicely. It softened a little so it might work for a pencil skirt, but nothing that needs drape. Have you tried pencil skirts in other fabrics? If you know the style works for you, then go for it. Otherwise, try it in a cheap fabric first. I think whether or not it works would depend on the top worn with it. I've recently discovered that pencil skirts work for me and now can't wait to make more.

I found a lt wt. stretch corduroy houndstooth in the right scale but it seemed like it would cling too much.

I gave up on the houndstooth and bought a gorgeous looking tweed that feels horrible -100% coarse polyester. The colours will work better in my closet too.

Large-scale houndstooth

I did purchase this with a coupon (go to retailmenot.com to find one). I plan on making a coat jacket with mine. The fabric feels great to me. I would think it's worth a try with a pencil skirt, though I've never made one before.

.something like this?
This is me, in my favorite skirt. I wear it ALL THE TIME, and styled it alot of different ways. I did not make it- but have thought of copying it to make another. I am 5'6", so not petite, but you could always adjust the length a little bit to hit at your most flattering leg point.
This one is made from a soft but thick wool blend of some type. The weave is a little on the loose side, which may contribute to its nice drape.

That's exactly what I want! The black-white is such a great foil for bright solids and prints. I love your print combination.

I've seen a couple of blogs with a great houndstooth from Hancock. Unfortunately the closest Hancock is a half day's drive and the fabric isn't on their website.

So, despite having a nice servicable tweed, I'm still keeping my eyes peeled for that houndstooth!

Yes, I agree! the large scale blk/wht hounstooth is what makes it. Thanks for the styling compliment:)
I say go for it if you can find the fabric!
