Date: 10/27/09 10:15 PM First, let me say that I have been successfully using the NSA ever since I asked for advice here. If I was so rude as to not thank all those who spoke up, I am sooo gratefull. It has changed my sewing for the better.
Except now I'm about to tackle this dress, the one from the July BWOF that Dawn/Two On, Two Off just made as a Halloween costume:
BWOF 07-2009-107
It's like a princess seam except the side panel is very narrow and toward the side. Most of the shoulder and armscye are in the center panel.
My problem is that, when I do the NSA on a darted bodice, I always end up altering the side seam at the bottom armscye. Here, this area is about 1 in to begin with.
What do I do? Please help. TIA

Date: 10/28/09 3:26 PM This shouldn't be much a problem.
Those princess seams are really not princess seams in the usual sense. They are just design elements. (That said, in looking at the dress, I'm not sure where they put in the bust ease. I guess you have to be fairly small chested for this design.)
Take off any seam allowances from the pattern pieces. I think Burda WOF doesn't have any anyway which is helpful. Now put the pattern pieces together along that "princess seam line." You can tap it and then cut the tape later. Now make all of your usual adjustments as if you had one pattern piece to work with. Take the pieces back apart and add seam allowances. that should do it. ------ Susan

Reply to drsue Date: 10/31/09 8:03 PM Thanks, Dr Sue. I apologize for replying so late, I was working a conference for my office. I don't think I slept more than 5h per night.
Anyway, will try your suggestions, thank you. And I'm muslining for sure, I'm a believer now, LOL!
I'll let you know how it went. ------ Fashion Maté, where I blog about what I (eventually) sew : http://fashionmate.blogspot.com | Please LOGIN or Create Profile
