Date: 10/28/09 5:35 PM I am putting interfacing on satin with a flannel like back side and it keeps bubbling. Is there a trick to ironing interfacing on satin to keep it from bubbling? |

Reply to Edsmermaid Date: 10/28/09 8:54 PM From other posts that I have read on PR I believe you cannot put fusible facing on satin. They suggest layer of organza to face with on silk satin fabrics. I used a satin backed with crepe this week on a christening outfit and was able to line w/a lightweight batiste cotton. This was a poly/satin from JoAnn. ------ It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something. ~ Franklin D Roosevelt 1843

Date: 11/2/09 10:15 PM definitely stick with a sew in interfacing. The weight of the interfacing will depend on the weight of the satin but silk organza is generally a safe bet. Poyester organza tends to be very slippery and because you'll be sewing and not fusing, it has a tendency to go all over the place. To be safe, try basting the interfacing to the satin first just inside the seamline. That way, if you need to remove the stitching it won't show on the outside. Good luck. |

Date: 11/5/09 11:32 AM I'm not sure about the flannel backed but I use poly duchesse satin on some of the corsets I make and I fuse it with a cotton woven interfacing. I use a pretty hot iron and then go over the right side using a silk organza pressing cloth. I don't have any problems or get any bubbles. |
