Date: 11/3/09 10:20 AM Hello again--I posted earlier about choosing an interlining for drapes. I went for standard Hanes interlining since the linen I am working with is already pretty heavy. It was all going swimmingly until it came time to sew the double side hems. I have a portable blindstitch machine which is just not up for the job. I think the multiple layers of face fabric, interlining, and lining are just too much for the machine (which works perfectly for garment hemming). So that leaves hand stitching, which makes my hands hurt just thinking about it.
My question is--how do you do a blindstich on that many layers of fabric? Do you just catch the lining? Or do you have to sew all the way through to the face fabric? |

Reply to CMag Date: 11/3/09 2:44 PM I use the blindstitch on my sewing machine and never had a problem with all the layers of drapery fabric, flannel interlining and lining.
ETA - I meant to write 'blind hem' instead of blindstitch. (senior moment...) -- Edited on 11/3/09 9:44 PM -- |

Date: 11/3/09 3:52 PM If you hand sew them, you can get away with catching the face fabric only every 6 or so inches. I've used my blindhem on the regular machine a lot. It comes out a bit uneven, like the face fabric gets caught sometimes. It's usually good enough. Sorry the blindhemmer didn't work. I recently bought a blindhemmer (in a table), and am about to embark on shades that are interlined & have blackout lining. Wish me luck, too. | Please LOGIN or Create Profile
