Date: 11/6/09 7:05 PM I know I posted this last year but it's that time of year again. Wiss and Gingher were my scissors of choice until I used the Kai scissors. I love my Kai scissors and thought I'd enable anyone who's on the fence about trying them. After all, you can never have too many pairs of scissors, can you? I wish they would develop applique scissors even though I'm happy with the Ginghers. The most recent American Sewing Guild Notions magazine listed this offer -- 20% off any order over $20 PLUS their normal free shipping. Offer expires Dec. 15th. And, no, no affiliation etc. -- Edited on 11/6/09 7:07 PM -- ------ Patti

Reply to Patti B Date: 11/8/09 7:57 PM Patti, which Kai did you get? I got the 9 in shears and some smaller ones at the last sewing show, but I have not tried out the pinking shears. 20% would help my scissors collection. Next page>> |

Reply to sewnew Date: 11/8/09 9:30 PM Well, my favorites are the 5165 6.5 inch scissors; they are my 'go to' scissors for a quick cut. I have the pinking shears and while they are nice and sharp, they seem a little recalcitrant to me. My friend who also owns them thinks it's normal. ??? I just ordered the professional 9 inch shears based on Barbara 3's endorsement. ------ Patti

Reply to Patti B Date: 11/8/09 11:01 PM It has been nearly two years since I bought those Professional Kai 9" shears at the Sewing Expo in Puyallup. I've used them for every single project I've sewn since then and they still cut like butter. I've been thinking of sending them up to Seattle for sharpening by the owner of Kai just because it seems like I should do that to take care of them, but I don't want to part with them! Next page>> |

Reply to Patti B Date: 11/8/09 11:51 PM I love my 8.5 inch dressmaking kai's I got from an Emma Seabrook class on knits about 2 years ago..they still cut so well. I have been thinking about needing a backup pair.
I went to the Kai website and did not see a sale banner...and of course I cannot find my last ASG newsletter (probably recycled)...so do I need a special code? or do I enter my ASG number at some point? I did not try to order yet.
NAYY too
Thanks, ML Next page>> |

Reply to emelle Date: 11/9/09 8:28 AM Hi Emelle,
The ASG newsletter says to go to the Special Orders page of the ASG web site for the discount.
I am very tempted to get a pair. I'm encouraged that you like the dressmaking shears for knits -- I've been wondering if I should spring for the serrated edge professional shears, but am not such a professional myself that my sewing rates such fancy equipment!

Reply to ElizabethDee Date: 11/9/09 10:08 AM Since I sew alot of knit tops, I cannot imagine life without them.....if you spread out the cost over several years....and consider how much happier your hands/fingers and mind are when you are cutting out....while I still love my Ghingers for wovens, it's a snap decision for me...off to the website I go.....ML Next page>> |

Reply to emelle Date: 11/9/09 10:50 AM Emelle, You can just enter ASG in the discount code box on the order screen. Either way will work, plus you can call them if you prefer.
Barbara 3, I'm glad to hear that you still love yours! My 6.5 scissors are at least 5 years old and still as sharp as ever. ------ Patti
