Through work, I've met somebody who used to own a commerical embroidery business and offerd to sell me her collection of Sylco thread. Evidently, this is a poly/rayon thread used by Coats. I've never seen it before.

Is anybody familiar with this brand and can talk about its performance? I've heard frequently to avoid Coats thread for sewing and serging projects because of its not-so-great quality...

I have quite a bit of it. A few years ago I found it online for a great price and bought all the colors they had. I have never regretted it. It works well on both on my embroidery machines and worked on my old one as well. I would compare it favorably with any of the more known brands. If the price is right, go for it. Are you sure that it is poly/rayon? Mine is all poly.
