Date: 11/16/09 11:53 AM what should I pay for a reader writer for my viking rose embroidery machine, it is 4 years old. Do I need software to go with it and how much would that cost? |

Reply to grangehallman Date: 11/16/09 5:32 PM I own the Husqvarna Orchidea but unless something has changed my machine uses the same embroidery cards as the Rose.
I would personally recommend the Vikant Ultimate Box. I owned the Husqvarna reader/writer for years but recently switched to the Ultimate Box and I like it so much better.
This does exactly the same thing as Husqvarna's reader/writer. It will transfer all your designs from your computer to a blank embroidery card (included with the box). You don't need any other software. Everything comes with the box, plugs into a UBS port on your computer and is simple to use.
If however you want to edit designs, add some lettering to your designs, convert formats, resize, etc. then I'd recommend also buying Embird. It is compatiable with the Ultimate Box and is very good software. I got sick of having to fork out large amounts of money to Husqvarna everytime Windows updated their operating system, plus I actually didn't like their software. I much prefer Embird. Your mileage may vary, but I hope this helps. ------ Belinda. Melbourne, Australia

Reply to grangehallman Date: 11/16/09 9:46 PM If you bought the Viking reader/writer and card, that's around $300.00 and the basic Organizer software is around 125.00 at the Viking dealer. Those prices are list, hopefully you could get it for less.
I also think the Vikant is a better way to go. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. | Please LOGIN or Join PatternReview
