This is a simple, 2 piece bias skirt with a 4" deep roundy yoke all the way around the top, Butterick 4020, with a side zipper. I'd show a picture but the pattern pic does not show the yoke. The pattern instructions say to sew the front & back yoke pieces together at the non-zipper side and then reinforce with twill tape all the way across the waist and hip. I cut the skirt out of wool crepe adding a couple inches at the sides for fitting purposes. Same for the yokes.

The skirt would be a lot easier to fit if I applied the stay tape to the separate yokes and then attached them to the skirt pieces for fitting. I can't think of any significant reason not to do this. Can you?

Natalie,
Nope, me either, no reason not to do it as you plan. In fact, I think that your plan to stabilize the yokes separately is a great plan, as wool crepe cut on the bias has the capacity to stretch the very first time you lift it off your cutting table. --Lily

Thanks for the responses I put the skirt together as I indicated and all is well. Now I'll let it hang a few days. Bias skirts are just so nice to wear.
