Date: 11/17/09 11:03 AM I have narrowed down my choice to buying a Bernina 630e as soon as they go on sale at G street, but I called Janome for kicks and foound out there MC 11000 sewing embroidery machine (which looks super cool by teh way) is more than a $1000.00 more (over $5000.00 actually). WHY?! I though Bernina's were better than Janomes? Next page>> |

Reply to PolishPoppy Date: 11/17/09 11:17 AM That Bernina is an older model. The newest Bernina top of the line is around 12K. Imho Janome 11000 is a better machine especially for the money. Janome 11000 is Janome's TOL the 630E Bernina isn't their TOL the 830 is. Compare apples to apples. -- Edited on 11/17/09 11:22 AM -- Next page>> |

Date: 11/17/09 12:17 PM Oh! So you really think that the Janome 11000 is better than the Bernina 630 ....is it because the 11000 has more features? I thought a Bernina was always better than almost any sewing machine - would the 830 be better than the 11000 then or do you think the 11000 is better than the new Bernina 830? Just curious now Next page>> |

Reply to PolishPoppy Date: 11/17/09 12:24 PM Since you have the old Bernina 830 I think you might be used to the Bernina tank feel as opposed to the plastic "feel" of the Janome's...for what it's worth. I just could not get into the Janome...no matter how hard I tried. Try 'em both up and down and every which way and let your "gut" tell you. ------ formerly kirstensews

Date: 11/17/09 12:39 PM Well....now the other sort of stress is I am ALWAYS walking the halls of G street (stress reducer with three kids) and I all but promised I would get the 630e when they had a sale there...it is a LOT of money to spend and I want it to be my main machine... BUT I may have confused my self with teh total package which would be the janome 11000. Of course that would be ANOTHER $1000.00 more (A LOT OF GOSH DARN MONEY) and saving for a longer time to get it. i just assumed you could not go wrong with a Bernina (even if it is not the total package). But yoy are right - I like the feel and sound of the old 830 machine...I'll never get rid of it. Next page>> |

Reply to PolishPoppy Date: 11/17/09 1:51 PM Really at that end both the machines are very good machines. I just feel Bernina is over priced and in the field of embroidery doesn't play well with others. You have to buy Bernina software which is very expensive. I don't believe any 3rd part software will work with it. Don't get me wrong I'm a Bernina fan. I just picked up a 1630 not long ago. Also might want to compare what size of embroidery that particular model does. It wasn't really clear to me on web site. When it comes to size of designs though anything past 5 x 7 as I was saying on another thread is going to take forever to stitch out. I just don't have 4 hours to sit and babysit one design. But I would buy the machine you feel you like the best, that talks to you and you feel comfortable with. I have a Janome 10001 and I love it. So I am a little partial. have fun deciding. Reply to PolishPoppy Date: 11/17/09 1:53 PM Is G street a Janome and Bernina dealer. Not sure how far you are willing to go but there is a Janome dealer in Maryland that would give you a great deal. Stitches, Inc. in Baltimore county. Next page>> |

Date: 11/17/09 3:52 PM Recently I have been considering TOL sewing machines, I ruled out the Bernina because of price but I was urged to go see it because I was told what an amazing quality machine it was and nothing compares i would see the value in it. this was by other people some who worked for dealers.
The new 830 is a nice machine but I just don't think it rates anywhere near what is being asked. I cannot really see any innovation beyone the larger bobbin for the money. yes the BSR is a nice thing but the screen is small dull and crowded. The person demonstrating started explaining the threading to me, lost the thread, when the needle threader failed to grab and did exactly what she warned me not to do, pull the thread out the other way over the sophisticated sensor she just told me all about. the needle threader didn't work twice when she demo'd and because she manually pushed the embroidery unit back the machine locked up and started buzzing she had to turn it on and off to reset. I was very underwhelmed for 13k. I took the CD of the simulator home just to give it walk through on my own but just came to the same conclusion. It may be a precision sewing machine,of excellent high quality parts but I just couldn't see any evidence of it. Maybe so much hype you are destined to be disappointed.
I think the janome 11000se is offering some new innvoations for the money. the acqufil. the newer hoop with the clips that works with the accufil and some nice features. It depends on what you expect for your money and what you want in your machine.
Try the janome I think you will be suprised at how many features it packs in for that price. Next page>> |

Date: 11/17/09 4:09 PM I have to admitt that reading the posts is a little stressful. I was SURE until t his morning that I wanted the 630e. But I went though all the reviews for the Bernina 630e and they did NOT seem as positive as would expect from a Bernina, one lady even traded hers in after a year (for another Bernina). I actually love the way the Bernina's look, and they seem like a nice simple machine that really has great stitches (I just sold my activa 230PE in expectation of buying the new Bernina) - the 230PE is what pulled me to the 630e. What I did NOT like about the 230PE was the overlock stitch and the fact that it vibrated at full speed - I assumed that was because it is a 3/4 size machine - but overall I really really lived it. I also have a Janome memory craft (very very nice overlock stitch) and love it for different reasons - it however does not seem to be able to power through lots of material like the Bernina was able to and the Bernina also did not sound like it was struggling like the Janome sometimes does (unless I go very very slow speeds with it).
And really you cannot use other software with the 630e like embird? Next page>> |
