Are they short in RTW?

Is it just me, or is the crotch piece on panties too short or misalligned? My latest project is finding and creating panties that are comfortable, cotton with no visible panty lines (and I'm not excited about g-strings). I just bought a pair of the much recommended Ongossamer hip bikini's and my test for the panty line is wearing yoga pants. From the front they are ok, but the back shows a definite crotch lining seam, and it appears to me that the front is a bit short.

I think they are often short and almost always too far back.

I'm not generally worried about the seams showing, tight pants are years in my past, but the point of a crotch lining is protection. And for the last decade they have just been failing.

I've been thinking about sewing panty's to get around my frustration, but I have too many great fabrics in my stash begging for attention and I don't seem to get to it.

That's what I'm doing now, I try a new version once a month. I think finding the right fabric is the trick, it's also making me critical of the RTW panties out there.

And I have to say, what you are saying is true for me as well, to far back.

I heartily agree on placement. That's why I love making my own. I can move the lining piece to the place for me. I also zigzag the crotchpiece directly onto the panty piece to eliminate a seamline. Works for me!
