Hello, everyone,

I made V2903 for myself a couple of years ago, and it was a joy to make, fits me marvelously, and makes me look awesome. However, I made it out of cheap cotton broadcloth, which is now reaching its end of life. I'm looking to make the dress again, and I am looking for recommendations about which fabric to use. The criteria are:

(1) The pattern calls for fabric which is somewhat stiff but not too bulky-- Cotton Broadcloth, Shantung, Faille and Piqué.

(2) Natural fibers only, please!

(3) It needs to be machine washable, but I will happily wash and pre-shrink the fabric before I cut it out.

(4) The dress fits me snugly, and I've noticed that the fabric is starting to pull apart a little at the seams, so nothing that is too fragile in that regard.

(5) It requires quite a lot of fabric (5-6 yards depending on width), but since this is one of my favorite dresses and I know I will get a lot of wear out of it, I'd be prepared to spend up to $100-125 on fabric for it.

Thanks!

Oh, also, I would like the fabric not to wrinkle too badly when washed. This is my chief complaint about this dress's current incarnation...

You may want to try a poly/cotton or a stretch, light weight cotton for a little more ease. Good luck.

What about a stretch sateen?

I kind of love this one.

Also, in my experience, the cotton sateens with some stretch/lycra in them don't wrinkle as bad....

A stretch sateen would be lovely. Or what about a cotton pique, maybe with some lycra in it?

The addition of lycra often makes fabrics less wrinkly, or you could look for a poly-cotton blend which would also be very durable. Something in a linen-rayon or a sturdier tencel would also be lovely.
