I've had this account for less than a week -- I signed up for it (despite my general dislike of Hotmail) to use for a specific purpose. Now Hotmail is telling me that my password is invalid. It isn't -- I'm totally anal about these things, and always keep a record of them in my documents, in cryptic shorthand that only I understand. (Yes, yes, I read it correctly.)

They won't reset my password, either -- they give me a message "we can't reset your password because you didn't set up secret questions for this account." Well, nooo... because they didn't ASK me to. To make things even sillier, when I tried to contact them about this specific issue, they asked me to fill in the answer to my secret question. Yes, that same secret question that I don't have -- the one they didn't have me set up when I registered...

Sigh. I suppose I'll have to set up a new account to use for this particular purpose, which is going to be a fairly large headache.

Is anyone else having problems with Hotmail?

Someone tried to hack my hotmail account once, so it was locked after 5 failed passwords. Could that have happened to you?

I had this happen to me twice. I opened a new email and couldn't get back into it again. I just opened another one and made sure i had another email address attached to it so if this happens again i can change the password.

Hotmail is supposed to be what I use with my Vista..every time I've tried to open an account it has refused or not remebered me..one time, I thought I was successful and sent several messages..the messages said sent, but were actually filed under outgoing and could not be sent!

I now use Aim mail for outgoing messages...

No, I didn't get the "you've tried an incorrect password too many times" message until I had tried my actual/correct password with no success about 5 times. The first few times it just said I had entered the password incorrectly.

However -- update -- I cleared my cache and now I'm able to log in, which will allow me to send a new e-mail address to my contacts. I got a note today from one of them saying my e-mail had been bouncing. I really only picked Hotmail for this (Internet surveys, etc.) because I think of it as a good place for borderline junk items, but it's even worse than I realized. I'm now sticking mostly with GMail and Yahoo Canada.
